To create this shot: I positioned Woody between two caroded metal musicians and made use of the natural backlight coming through the window. My two children stood on either side and gently blew and did their own little elemental dance to get the incense smoke to swirl.Elements of wood, metal, fire and watery blue hues.

A lot of people got worked up about Woody on his stand... I don't know why I didn't root it out of him: he just seems to be connected to it/ as if it's a part of him and it didn't bother me at the time..anyway: no reasons really.

As for the black dot being distracting: okay I had a quick look at him again, and realised too late that I (as a few others had) had twisted the poor little guy's head around and in fact he DOES have a face. The dot should be at the back of his head. Ooops.

Thanks for all the supportive and constructive comments. This site is fast becoming addicitve!

Nice photo, atmospheric, wish the woody was free from its stand by balancing or hanging with fishing line etc. Good image and lighting

I like the idea and concept here. A few things that jump out at me that IMO would help this. 1) It would be nice if Woody wasn't on a stand (I know not easy to do, but it IS possible). 2) A faster shutter speed would have "frozen" the smoke. Because the smoke is moving it appears blurred. 3) The lighting is somewhat harsh. Probably needed it that way some to get the smoke to "light" up correctly, but the lighting on 'Woody' is too strong IMO on the outside edges (arm, shoulder, head).

Just some thoughts and comments. Best of luck to you in the challenge.

Smoke is difficult to shoot. Here I think it went just a hair oof in the forground. But other than that I think the other elements work very well together in this image. But that black dot does distract in the woodies head... but I let that slide.

Nice use of auxillary figures! And by the way, I do think those supports unscrew - after many days of trying to pull it out, I discovered you can unscrew it. Still, kinda fits in this image anyway.

Nice idea, interesting lighting, good use of smoke. Woody not so dead center might be better. I like it.

Interesting photo, but I'd lose the Woody's base.

Nice set up but I think it would be better if you could have taken Woody off the stand and posed him without it.
