Thanks to all for the votes and the comments.

First, I would like to say that this shot was not staged. As I state in my Photographer's Comments, I stumbled onto this kid while looking for my "Urban" submission. I thought this shot would be interesting since his panhandling cup was out of the ordinary being tied to the end of a stick.

I thought it was neat, although I felt sad that he had to do this to get by. I feel sorry for all these young adults that have to live in the streets, either on the short or long term, because they feel thay do not have anywhere to go. A true nightmare for those who live like this day-in, day-out...

So. It wasn't a prop? Hope he got lots of money that day. Boy. I feel bad. Poor kid. Did you ask him why he did his cup up that way? I would think it could be swiped too easily, sticking out there like that.

very emotive. sad truth some of us must face. good composition and contrast. I also like the way the young mans features are obscured. 7

Gread sharpness, dof, and good composition. The idea behind the shot is something I can really identify with. Well done.

Yes it could be. The overall shot is well done, good light, contrast and showing the indifference of society at times.

I wish I could read the sign here. It looks like it might say "please help me get home" and that would make a powerful photo. I really lke the composition. The man walking away is good. I think in this case it is ok that only half of him shows. The cup on the stick is strange. I wonder what his idea behind that was. This is a good shot :)

The dark hidden face really works to show how invisible runaways become in society. Did you do that on purpose? I like how the men are walking away from him. It is really sharp too.
I don't like the stick with the cup on it. I don't live in a big city, so I wouldn't know about the prop(money cup?), but it just doesn't look right.

Well done. I think this is my own nightmare, not just my parents'! 8. B/W is a good choice.

Nice journalistic shot. Tones and clarity are well done. Composition works well.

This is such a sad sight (that is if it is not a set-up and you used a model, only saying that because his bag looks quite new). Luckily we don't see much of this around here. But you are right, a real nightmare.
