I take back my dark comment. Looking at it on this monitor I can see the amount of detail I want to see. The other monitor is just dark.

I like the sun shining through the window, but why is this something old?

This has a certain appeal...blue, cloudy sky, pointy silhouette. I love the light shining through the facade. But for the title there is nothing that says "Old" to me though.

this is an awesome picture. I love how the sun is coming through the window of the house. that really makes the picture stand out from all the other silhouetted shots out there. great job with the lighting.

I would have said, forget about 'Something Old' (I presume 1896 is the building's date) and just go for a stunningly good sunrise/sunset shot. Dropping the exposure to make the buildings completely black silhouettes would have made for an astounding picture IMHO. It might not have been applicable to the competition, but hey. who cares if its a 10+ picture anyway!

I like the sun through the building, I feel it could use a bit less sky, and the tree on the left is unfortunate. Is this the same building as the other 1896 photo? I guessed that was in Iceland, but maybe I was wrong.

i must know how you had your camera setup for this shot. Ive been trying to get something like this for a while but it never turns out great like this one.

I love the image, but wish I knew what I was looking at and how it applies to the challenge... 3 sjgleah

It might be old... but it doesn't look that old to me...

Wonderful shot! On beauty alone, this is a keeper! The sky is great, the tree silhouette is fantastic, the light shining through the window is inspiring and without the title, I would never have any idea of this structure's age (the stated point of the challenge). I am going to raise your score from 6 to 8, but only because this is a truly fantastic photograph. Swash

Lovely timing and framing. Great sky and an effective silhouette. Great shot.

cool shot but doesn't say something old at all.

This is a great shot – the use of light and dark really works giving an impression of pyramids in Egypt. I think that the challenge link is weak, but the photo deserves a good score. (8)

Wow, I like the capture of the sun in the window. Beautiful picture. karmat

Good artistic photo.Unfortunately, the title is necessary to convey the theme of age in the challenge. Would like to see this one again for a challenge that better fits it.

Beautiful. Love the sky and how the sun shines right through that window. Certainly isn't anything that looks like this where I live. The centering works. I like how it's almost silhouette, but I think I'd have liked to see a tiny bit more detail in the house front. Not completely, but just a bit. My monitor could be dark though.

This is an excellent capture... I love how the sun is placed in the window of the house... The silhouette effect here is quite nice... My only issue with this photo is that i can't really see 'old'. I believe that the buildings are probably old, but that aspect is not strong in the photo. I love the shot though :) - jmsetzler

I can't tell what this is supposed to be of.

This is really neat, you must have waited all day to get the sun in just that spot! I wish I could tell what it is you photographed and how it related to the challenge, but it's a great stand alone picture.

I can imagine this took some patience on your part to make sure everything was aligned and the timing was right. It does seem somewhat dark though but that may have been your desired effect. The tree being not fully in or out of frame is a little distracting considering everything else is centered.

I like your photo of the sky, and the sun shining through the attic window adds interest, but the title, which for me is the year of this building, is not evident enough in it's silhouette to carry the theme of the photo.

What are the odds of coming across this set up? I like it.
08/05/2002 06:23:00 PM
Good picture, needs a focus.

I know the title is 1896 but where is the something old part?I see back lit buildings with the sun comming through a window--which is really neat to look at.A great looking sky,but where is the something old?
08/05/2002 11:45:00 AM
This is a beautful shot...have to dock a little because 'I' don't see old. I'd also like a tad more of the ground in view...the balance seems a little off to me. 7 Lisa
