An extreme closeup of the iris of my eye. This is a 100% crop using "super macro" mode, which can focus down to 0 inches, of this:

Never could get it especially sharp, so I\'m hoping the voters will accept it as abstractly fuzzy. I tried to reduce the aperture to get greater depth of field, but it didn\'t seem to help much. :)

I\'ve taken more than 150 pics, varying the lighting, angle between the camera and the lights, my position in the frame, etc. This is finally good enough to enter.

I looked at various color options, but this looked the least noisy.

Many thanks to Melethia, who suggested I enter one of these in this challenge when she commented on this self-portrait:

Greetings from the critique club. First let me tell you that I feel you met the challenge perfectly. This is certainly abstract. When I look at it I almost get the feeling of this being from the moon. I think your photo suffers from a bit too much noise, likely from what appears underexposure which is common with macros due to lack of light being able to get to the lens. I'd suggest using a couple of hot lights one on each side to help light this. Overall you did well especially considering what appears to be a heavily cropped photo. Good luck in future challenges.

Very interesting and well done Jeffrey! That Melethia. . .she's pretty smart, isn't she? :)

Haha, I have a camera just like it, and have tried the same! The zero-inch super macro is aaaawesome in this camera, but the problem is often the light, as the lens starts to block it up close.

Hint for future uses: Put camera lens up, towards (a not too bright sky), set manual focus to zero, and now you can put various items direclt on the lens and get amazing shots this way. One other interesting thing to try with this amazing and versatile camera is the time lapse function. Put it on a tripod, set it to 50 shots, every 5 minutes, and watch the world go by. Microsoft movie maker (free) can make the shots into a time lapsed video clip ...

wow, that's really freaky. Really cool, but REALLY freaky. seems to be a tad sharp with those red dots.

Like your idea and object but your shot is very noisy. Try to shoot at lower ISO.

Wow, I really like the look of this one. I'm a fan of macro photos of eyes, and this one looks like someone sculpted an iris on a beach and dug a hole in the middle. Neat!

This is very different - and I like it a lot.

very nice indeed. the slight oversharpening degrades it slightly, though.
