Challenge: Rain II (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Nikon D80
Lens: Tamron AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di II for Nikon
Location: Reading, Berkshire, England
Date: Sep 22, 2006
Aperture: f/10
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/15s
Galleries: Nature
Date Uploaded: Sep 22, 2006

Shot through the window of my car while parked at the side of the road leading to my office. The rain was hammering down and all of the passing traffic was braking before a roundabout. The shot was taken by focusing on the rain drops of the windscreen, having a long exposure time to try and increase the sense of blur but also of the lens effect of the rain drops on the screen.

Post processing:
- shadows & highlights
- levels
- curves
- hue and saturation
- resize
- noise ninja for the smoothing effect
- smart sharpen to bring out the rain drops
- save for web

if that piece of car at the bottom was clipped out, i think it could be much more effective

come on. . . you can see the dash

eh. Too bad you couldn't focus on the water and left the background blurry.

My first impression is that there was a lot of smoothing done in post processing so that there is no definition in either the rain drops or the outside scene. I like how rain distorts things but there isn't that part left to this picture. The dashboard could be cropped out without messing up the composition.

I am not really feeling this one. The focus is on the window, which makes it hard to even look at the image. Cropping out the black thing at the bottom (windshield wiper?) would be an improvement though.

I think without the black in the foreground it would have been much better - Nice composition

Good idea and take on the challenge. It probably lacks enough "wow" factor to crack the top 20 but it's a good piece of work.

I like the blurred effect caused by the rain; Could be improved by cropping a bit of the foreground out.

I love the way the cars look though the window. I think you should have cropped out the wiper at the bottom though

One of my favourites of the challenge. Lovely colours and effect of fluid. 8.

Nice colours and tones. The subject (the road/cars) aren't very interesting though. Also, I think this would benefit if you had cropped out the dashboard (?) on the bottom.

Great Effect. Just wish you had cropped out the wiper blade (or whatever) at the bottom.

I can feel the traffic slowing down! It seems that everyone forgets how to drive when water falls from the sky! You might have even tried to focus this image more on just part of one car and a portion of the road through the wet windshield. Good idea though! 8o)

I'm guessing that the windshield tint helped this image leap from ordinary to something special. Niceely done!
