A tree in the cemetery. I took a bunch of shots without the auto focus on(thanks hubby) and then when i realized i was all mad and shot some quick shots WITH auto focus and this was one of them. a tree in hazard hill cemetery. that place creeps me out. it has real old plots for the 1800s and stuff. one in particular has a huge black hole going to who knows where under it but the stones pushed up so it's visible. eeeekkk. and my camera went error crazy and then started flashing 8000 while i was there. NOT COOL. anyhow:
hdr technique
combined overexposed and underexposed versions of same raw and masked off some grass and tree and the gravestone.
levels in soft light mode
curves in soft light mode, masked a tiny bit on tree and stone and grass( i love those tree and stone and grass dont I?) ;)
selective color for cyans
selective color for everything
crop
resize
high pass filter in overlay mode, masked on guess what?? grass and stone and tree!

The hdr in this is amazing, the tree stands out so much more than it should giving it a cool creepy, surreal effect. The perspective is heaps cool as well. The only thing I don't care for is the one big blade of grass across the foreground there... oh well.

powerful, exciting image. I'm surprised it didn't do better. Maybe it was the foreground blades of grass. silly, silly voters.

I have to say I just laughed out loud reading your comments about the location, the black hole, and your camera doing strange things! ;^) The hubby comment kept the smile going...he-he.

As for the processing on this image, I like it. It retained the gloomy feel that was certainly present. One of the first things that jumped out at me, unfortunately, was that tall blade of grass in the foreground. I just read thru your comments on this...bet your grumbling a bit about that? :P Overall, I liked your entry alot - gave it an 8 when voting.

Nice perspective and I like the processing. I wish you had taken that one tall blade of grass out of the frame though. 6

I don't care for the blade of grass going across the tree trunk, but I do like the tones and composition mucho mucho!

adore the concept in there... "from the ground up" technique makes us little compare to this big tree you called "the guardian". The mysterious part of this photo is great too... Well quite a good work. Congrats. !

The angle creates a great and interesting perspective. The sky and headstone create a nice moody feeling. I think it might have been better without the blades of grass in the foreground, though.

Interesting composition. The tree is nicely unusual in that it has a door and a window.

Gnomes home? or doorway to the netherworld? Great tree, pity you did not get the lawnmower out first, I find that long bit of grass across the trunk distracting.

That blade of grass is really distracting to me, you should have plucked it before you took the photo. I like the composition and angle although it is a bit dark for my tastes.
