I was tempted to sit out this week, but this seemed like a cute idea (and relatively simple to execute). The biggest problem was finding a Wonka Bar. I've seen them in stores before, but not when I actually want to buy one! :-(

I finally resorted to building this Wonka Bar from a large Kit Kat bar, the foil from a Hershey bar, and a label that I drew in Photoshop and printed on matte paper. Pain-in-the-neck.

A bare monolight was behind my model, and my daughter was bouncing a small gold reflector in his face. A brolly box provided some fill light.

Processing was fairly minimal- Crop, Levels, HSM, slight Shadow/Highlight and a saturation boost in Channel Mixer.

26th place? A bit underrated in my opinion. Some folks commented on the flatness and the background. Those things originally stood out to me as well, but considering that it was an older movie, and the family was very poor, I thought it kind of fit. I think it's a great shot for the challenge! :)

Cute, creative and the composition and exposure are good, but the background panneling is a bit distracting. If he was a few feet farther away and if you had a more shallow dof it might work better.

Good shot and shows much preparation (hard to find one of those Wonka bars with the prize ticket).

Alright, where did you buy a wonka bar? Just for the prop you get a 10.

Very cool! The boy even looks like Charlie. Having the light from the ticket on his face adds a lot to this. A little looser crop would be the only suggestion I could offer.

Lovely expression. Sharp and good control of exposure.. but watch the cropping.. the right hand is cropped too much.. 7 for me

Not a bad photo, although, I would have prefered seeing it a little bit more 'fleshed out'. maybe more of a wide angle with a colorful character in the foreground or something like that.

well done, I especially like the light on the face and the accuracy of the costume. the only suggestion I could have made would be to try and PP so that it feels like an older movie. and also in the movie there weren't any protrait scenes, not trying to nitpick too much but just a suggestion. 8

I hope more people see it, but getting the reflection of the gold wrapper onto the childs face, just like Charlie when he opened the wrapper - as well as the exact blue turtleneck - quite a feat. GREAT job!

Charlie and the Chocolate factory, that aside I love the lighting you have used (gold reflection on the childs face) , great set up and follow through, good luck in the challenge.

EDIT: Appologies, I never realised the origianl was called Willy Wonka & the Chocolate factory. Anyhow I still love the shot and imagine it to do very well.

Alright. You've got a bit of a "midday snapshot" glow coming off his head there.

Nice idea but it lacks the depth of emotion that I would like to see from a photo referencing this film. Finding the golden ticket was a real turning point in Charlie's Life, the boy in this photo just looks like he got a decoder ring in his cereal box. The wooden background doesn't really ad anything interesting. Sorry.
