Un Chien Andalou

Possibly containing some of the most disturbing scenes from film, and a very early and important part of motion picture history, Un chien andalou was written by Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dali, and filmed in 1929. The eyeball slicing scene is one of the most visceral, of many, from the movie. Probably the first surrealist movie, it's worth seeing for anyone interested in visual media.

a little nervewracking doing this, but actually quite easy. yes, the blade is real, and it really is resting on my eyeball. however, the tiny shadow cast on the blade by the curve of the eye is a very lucky fluke, making it appear that the blade is exerting much more pressure than it is.

This was the first film I saw in film school back in 1993 & loved it - your photo portrays the emotion of that scene well!

Got the shock value atmosphere of this movie perfectly. This is one of the most disturbing (memorable)scenes in cinema, but I seem to remember it was a straight (cut throat) razor was used, not curved as you shot. 10 out of 10 for bravery to try this yourself. This photo did not receive the credit it deserves in this competition IMHO. Excellent reconstruction!

I gave you a ten, you were robbed, probably the most creepy realistic shot in the whole challenge and you scared the voters and they couldn't handle it on the front page. awesome.

I had to look this one up. Once I did, it made total sense. 10 from me, hope you get more voters willing to do the homework required.

Nothing like an appreciation for everyone's favorite surrealist .. well I'm a Magritte fan myself but this is a nice homage to Dali - it looks like a fram from a film - grainy and a slight motion blue.

Not a fan of horror movies, but this shot certainly got that initial response... cringe! I might just have to randomly click the numbers since I don't want to look back at the screen! Ewww!

glad I haven't seen that one. Looks dangerous. It gives me a creepy feeling seeing the knife right on the membrane like that. I gave you a five.

I've looked at this about four times without commenting, because I wasn't sure what to say. The more i look, the more it creeps me out, but the photo is well done. The black & white and the graininess are perfect.

Nice picture but if you're entering a challenge where one of the components in voting would be identifying the scene from a movie, why choose a movie that so few people will have ever heard of much less watched? Guess I'll take your word (or photo) for it.

I had to look this movie up... never heard of it until now. It was very... um... different. Good job in recreating the scene. I gave you an 8, but probably would have rated it higher if you had used a razor.

Ouch... Painful shot... Watch the noice and the focus.. other than that the compostion looks a little akward.. the finger on the right is a little "out of place"... Daring shot.. Extra points for it.. 6 for me..

Ow. Too close for comfort. Never saw the movie. Composition is good. Could be more in focus but that is minor in my opinion.

Ewww! Hmm... I had been meaning to see this movie now I'm not so sure.

Well done though. I'd like to see more contrast since it has that grainy look but then again I bet it wasn't like that in the movie.
