Just playing around with color removal and gradients with an overlay.

First I took the image of the flower and cropped it. Then I went to selective color black and removed most of it. I did a little burn around the stem and edges of the flower. THEN I found an image of some cracked colored paint - close up. I did an overlay of it around 60%. I then erased that layer back to the vivid orange of the flower. I then applied the Aetherize filter using Flaming Pear.

More than anything, just experiment with different settings and see what you get!

wow it looks like the base of the flower is in the process of being frozen. The BG is beautiful with the pastel colors.

Ohmygosh! This is REALLY striking looking. It would make a beautiful framed print! It does look somewhat like a painting, without losing that master photography look! This is one of the prettiest flower pictures I've seen. Amazing.

The results are beautiful. Interesting. It looks a bit like a painting on an old plaster wall, aged by the years, you know how they get spotty like that - but not quite, because the flower and the background are not the same here. It's like the flower was put on an aged plaster wall. It's an eyecatcher.

No, not an acid trip -- a very sophisticated watercolor.
