Tough shoot. My model got disinterested after 7 or 8 shots. LOL

Thanks for all the great comments, I'm psyched to be in the top 20! Jade (the gorgeous model) was great but the location was last second due to me arriving late and we had to hurry to get some shots before the sun went down. I was hoping for a more wooded spot by a lake in a local park but I settled for this area right outside a highschool. In post I tried to make the background more "magical" by using a HUE blending mode. Flattened layers after that and used diffuse glow on the whole image. It was VERY difficult getting a shot where you could see the frog at all. I could not find a bigger frog to save my life.....lol

Critique Club Review:

I like the soft focus, and model's eyes really grab the attention. Kids are tough to work with, and here is would have helped to have her looking at the object of her "affection". One downside of the manipulation is that is almost leaves a wintery feel, which leaves the view wondering, if the frogs are active in the winter, and are they ever that color?

Good exposure and contrast control. Detail is everywhere. A little less depth of field might have helped remove the few background distractions.

Congratulations on top 20 placing. Her disinterested look works very well with your title.

I like it. Frog isn't reall obvious, but IMO, picture works even without the frog. good luck.

Very cute. I would have considered going closer and cropping closer on the right. Nice pleasing colors. Bump.

Frankly, if this was my little girl, I would be more than hoppy for her to keep the toad.....

This is agreat idea and a lovely pic. I love the softness of the little girl. Beautifully done. IMO the background steals some of the potential away from the pic. It's dull and the tree is distracting. Maybe a deeply saturated green backgound?...maybe even next to a little pond would have added a little something to the "fairy tale" feel. Still very nicely done and so I'm bumping you to 8.

Nice use of the soft focus--it gives a nice feel. The blue eyes may be a little too saturated.

Luckily, the title made me look closer to see that she's kissing a frog. But I almost missed it entirely, and just saw a cute girl dressed like a princess. Normally I don't like titles to tell me the story; I prefer that in the image.

But the rest of the image is so nice - the contrast between her coloring and that of her dress against the brown background, her expression, her gorgeous eyes ... and I like the soft focus.

Compositionally, the large empty space on the left doesn't do much for me.

With a tighter crop and maybe her hand lower so I could really see the frog, I would've voted higher. Still, I'm voting it a 6.

Fun shot. I like the soft illusion to it. Give the girl an oversized frog. =) One that would stand out more in the picture. That would give some "magic" to the picture.

Have her looking at the frog with anticipation and hope. Her looking up (to whatever it is she sees), doesn't quite make her WISH come true.

i really like this, though my only wish is that we were a bit closer to the action regarding the kissing the amphibian bit. the fact that the kid is looking up makes me feel that you could almost dispense with the lower third of the image, and maybe crop the top centimeter, making it more panoramic / film like possibly? the colours are so rich; i love the autumnal colours with the diffused glow of the backgrounds... it's really a marvellous picture, funny, cute, and mystical too. 10.

I like the concentration of blue in her eyes and the otherwise muted colors. However, I think the DOF could be better. The OOF arms yet well focused tree seems to indicate the focus is a little deep. Overall, well done I like the mood conveyed.

Looking up is a visual metaphor and it works in this case. Nice use of focus or de-focus. 8.

Cute idea but a little too much eye saturation for me

I really love this image. I particularly like the 'other worldly' nature of the girl. Her tiare is a bit dodgy, a bit too easily identified as plastic, but everything else is gorgeous.

Cute. NI to the hilt, but to a good effect. Too bad it's the end of summer and everything is brown, eh? I had the same problem. 6

Nice soft focus and glow, great tones. What you did with the background was very smart, and I like the pink stone on the tiara. One idea tho, would be to keep a sharper focus on the frog legs - or at least make them a bit more greeny. They're almost lost in the blur.

I love the soft focus on this and the light...she is gorgeous, a real princess with great eyes...perhaps a little closer would have ben better as the bg is a little distracting...you may have made her the focal point and still retained an interesting bg by going for a square crop and eliminating the left hand side...??? just a thought 8
