This is my first bird in captivity shot posing as a "free-bird" shot. I realize it can't compete with the top images of this sort so I tried to spice it up a bit with the desat. thing. The sky / background was solid blue so that wasn't anywhere near a major edit as I'm guessing people will think that it was - I just felt that it was more dramatic this way.

Excellent sharp capture, you didn't need to do the selective desat, it would have been more powerful seeing the beautiful feather colors. Great focus, contrast and feather detail.

Nice sharp photo, but there is a distracting glow around the bird.

The b/w effect makes this very differnt, but not sure I like the eye. But it is a very nice capture.

Nice to see a different kind of treatment to a fairly routine type of portrait.

I can understand why you selectively desaturated this image, but I personally think that the image would have been stronger in full colour. Selective desat can sometimes be very effective, but in my opinion, in this instance the image would have been more effective without it.

The detail is incredible, and the lighting & composition are good. Unfortunately, the selective desat really, really doesn't appeal to me. Sorry and I hope you don't mind my comment too much. The most important thing is that you are happy with your image.

It's an impressive shot, but I think it could stand on it's own without the special effects partial desaturation.

beautiful photo that the PP just ruins for me - sorry. The desat doesn't have to go ALL the way to B&W. You can draw your audiences attention with just a subtle desat on the bird, and gentle push on the sat on the eye and we'll get it without it feeling so contrived or unnatural.

The glow round the edges of the bird makes me wonder what's up with the processing too. Burning the background until it's gone?

Again, beautiful lighting and focus.

There is a halo of chromatic aboration around the subject. beautiful focus and texture. Very ominous.

lots of halos around edges, particularly around the beak and the right boundary between bird body and background. not effective for me.
