Hmmmm....definitely OOTB....Shot with the Fuji multi-image in camera. Shot the Dahlia first and then the flames from my right front burner trying to get the angle about the same. Turned out better than I thought so I am going with it. The dahlia alone in other shots is pretty good but with out any real fire I would be sure to get too many DNMC's. (Note the shutter speed in the exif is for the flame portion....the dahlia portion was around 1/50 sec or so.)

Post: Selected the area of the flames and did an adjustment layer of levels only. Selected the inverse and did layer adjustments for levels, brightness/contrast and hue/saturation. Burnt distaction in the lower left hand corner that was mostly cropped out anyways. Cloned a bit of refleciton in the backsplash on the wall...maybe it was a pot...just a small area. Sharpen. Resize. Sharpen. Save for web.

Greetings from the Critique club. I like the concept of this photo. I like the fact that you used double exposure to get this. I wish it had blended a little better where they meet. It almost looks like the flower is back from the flame rather then in it. I love the fact that the flower is super sharp. I'm not sure I like how the flame is not very well exposed. Not sure what it is, jut doesnt look sharp. NOt sure if its a shutter speed or a focus problem. Either way I think you did pretty well with it. Used your equipment well to get a unique effect and take on the challenge. Nicely done.

Thanks for the addition, André! (fixed the link)

I hope the desription of the shot(s) relieves anyone of the thought that a dahlia was injured in the taking of the image. But just in case, no...no dahlia was injured. Thanks for the comments, everyone!

Good idea - I think rotating so the flower is level and not cut off would make this even better

Fabulous colors here and the focus is great. I wish there was a bit more light coming in on the side just to brighten it up a touch more. Also I think composing it so that black portion in the bottom left corner was gone would give the image a more seamless look - tilting the subject (or camera) so that it appears to be rising up out of the corner rather than just cropping and losing some of the interesting features would probably be best. Other than that I think its a great entry. I gave a 6

I'm not sure what the concept is here but I think that's just me missing something and I wouldn't mark down for that. This is a lovely photo - good composition and colors, and a nice, distraction-free background.

Don't tell me no dahlia was hurt in the making, I wouldn't believe that... Excellent complementary colors and dynamic angle.

It's a nice picture but the fire doesn't really look like fire, maybe if the flower was right on top of it, it would have looked better

Hey what recipe book are you using? This seems a bit contradictoy, although I do see where you where going to. Maybe if shot from above it would look nicer.

I'm not sure if the flower is dying or if thats from the flame but the less than perfect look rarely work with flowers. nice concept though.

Nice clarity on the dahlia, but I really am not getting it. Why is the flower not on fire? Why such a tight and tilted crop? It could almost look like a lotus if it were shot straight on with more room around the subject.

Very Cool Idea! The flower is in good focus but I would liked a greater DoF to bring the flame into focus as well. Nice composition and idea. 6

Cool use of fire and flower. Imagination can see two seperate flames. Good luck.

Maybe with a square composition with the burner more centered in a corner, and the flower more centered with the burner, this would be close to the top for me. As it is, a very nice image.
