Placed a bit of dried grass in a baking pan with some charcoal lighter fluid after dark, lit it, and shot with manual exposure and manual focus until it burned out. Sorted the photos afterward looking for interesting abstract images and this is what I found.
Converted in ACR
Crop, Shadow/Highlight, Levels, Hue/Saturation applied in PSCS2. Neat Image used. Resized and sharpened.

Thanks everyone for all the votes and comments. I just got in from vacation and had to check how I did. I have to say I'm very pleased with the results.

Awesome flame shot. You don't need much imagination to see the demon.

Somehow this reminds me of a red haired beauty I went out a long time ago. Outstanding color and ethereal texture. Congratulations on your top ten finish.

If you're going to simply plonk a flame in front of the camera then this is the way to do it as it looks very appealing. The profile of Beelezebub looks good. Nice texture, definition and depth of colour, but not keen on border though.

Nicely titled, I like the colour of the flame and the shapes it has created! :o)

There are just too many contextless, dismbodied flame shots in this challenge, and to be honest none of them are terribly interesting. This is much like the Fireworks challenge, where the photos that scored best actually placed them in some kind of context. That said, I think this is one of the better versions, with nice clarity in the upper right.

Wow, it looks like silk. That is amazing. The ONLY thing I can see to improve would be maybe the border. I personally think it would have been better without the outer red border, and the inner border a tiny bit less yellow. But of course those are such nitpicks. This is an awesome entry.

The brain's ability to create faces where none exist is pretty amazing isn't it? 7

well done! good detail and exposure. Had cloned out the small portion in lower left corner, frame is a bit overdone IMO - 7
