Top of Chrysler building shot with 300mm (480mm effective) zoom lens (on tripod) from 30th floor of building on 3rd and 40th street. I transformed the picture into grayscale in photoshop, used autolevels, then increased the contrast, while decreasing the brightness slightly. Shot at 6pm, overcast/hazy skies.

my favorite photo on this entire site :) Might have been better suited for the "something old" thread ;)

good image, well composed, and exposed, black and white does it well and a catchy title.

Nicely done. Looks like a pencil drawing. Good crops. I'm just not superly 'wow'd' with this--but is still great. 9

Woulndt this be form more than texture? Wonderful bw shot though.7

I like the assortment and arrangements of shapes; I see the textures OK but "patterns" predominate...

this is a great photo... I love the composition... geometric designs in photography really work well for me.. to top it off, i like black and whites as well. great shot :) = 10 - jmsetzler

this is a really cool shot. I like how it provides a unique portrayal of a well known subject. the texture is well demonstrated. the composition is very nice, and the contrast is excellent.

My feeling is that you should have cropped out the empty white section.

This appeals more to my sense of sight than my sense of touch.

My wife doesn't like your photo, but I do very much (and I'm the one voting). It has an almost surreal look to it. Just a beautiful effect.

For those that are just learning, like me.

Composition: Scoring in this area is based on basic composition of a picture and includes the rule of thirds, balance, cropping, and curved and diagonal lines. Subject matter that does not lend itself to the picture or otherwise unwanted is also considered here.

Originality: Scoring in this area is based on pictures or concepts that I have seen, as well as how much effort you have invested in the picture. Usually a little something that sets it aside from a snapshot. Does it make me want to come back for another look? You know things like that.

Technical Aspects: Focus, exposure, lighting, and other special effects (done by the camera), and post processing are all considered in this category.

Meets Challenge: This is based on my interpretation of if you, have/have not, met the challenge. This is fairly simple but quite important for this site.

There are many sites that can give you assistance in achieving better skills in photography, but I think the best way to learn is to take pictures and show them to other people. Believe me when it is a good one you will know it.

Good luck!

A little flat.

Nice texture and love the black&white medium.
07/23/2002 05:59:00 AM
Good... I would omit ladder on the top - it ruins perfection of repetitive shapes.
07/23/2002 04:32:00 AM
could the sky contribute more to this pic?
07/23/2002 02:11:00 AM

I love that building! Nice job.

This is a nice image but I think there is a difference between Texture and Form. All th ebuilding materials here have different texture but I can't tell what they are in this picture.
07/22/2002 04:09:00 PM
nice study on black and white

Wow this is really good. The curves are great and the different angles creates great difference in the light on each panel. very very good!
07/22/2002 12:10:00 PM
nice pattern that contributes to texture; like the black and white
07/22/2002 09:43:00 AM
great title and texture! I'm sure you know this...but there's a dark spot in lower right corner...I also wish the contrast were spread more evenly but I'm sure you couldn't control that. 8 Lisa

Too much white space down righthand side detracts from this image
07/22/2002 02:10:00 AM
I really like the title, great imagination.
07/22/2002 12:12:00 AM
