Really all in the setup. Started out with a facial mask base (white). Then slapped myself a couple hundred times with flour. As you all know, flower and water (or anything in liquid form) makes a heavy, glue like paste. after about 25 mins of shooting and lots of touchups (touchups done by dabbing finger in water and placing finger on trouble area.... then slap yourself with flour ;-)) You get the look you see here.... and alot of mess! To bring it out in the photo a bit more, just a little burning, it can be easily overdone... as i've found out in the past ;-)
This is great! Wow. I love it, the BW, the cracked face, and the white insanity crawling up into your hair. Your eyes look a tad bit blue, strangely. I don't know if that's what you were going for, but I think it adds to the conceptualism.
heey this gives me a de-ja-vu (check my profile page "Twisted")
I love the black negative space around you, this adds a bit to the creepy-and weirdness. details must be stunning on the original. maybe use a bit of USM to get them back on this size?
LOL this is awesome! I love your expression, its almost like "the things I do to get a good photo".. I don't mind that your are centered, but maybe crop a little bit of the black from both sides?.. Ohh yeah I think B&W was perfect for this!
:-) I just got finished making pancakes with my 13 year old son. He kind of looked like that -- interactive cooking.
I agree with everyone's suggestion of making the photo off centered to the right. I'd stick with the horizontal layout as the portrait will diminish the black backgrounds effect. You've mastered the black background very well.
In your "Photographer's Comments" section let us know what you used for the cracked look. Inquiring minds will want to know.
I'm not sure what I think about the crop, but I don't think it'd have the same punch if it was in portrait.
The whites of your eyes look not-quite-completely white to me (I know you were shooting this for the B&W in colour challenge) but I think I'd completely desat the whole thing so your eyes aren't still slightly coloured.
Anywayz. =) Me likes.
I like it. I am not sure if I agree with everyone about off-center being better - i kinda like it that way - but I think maybe a little closer would look better and give more details on your face.
Very cool, what did you rub on yourself? Looks like it could be an ad for a horror movie. Personally I like the crop because the overwhelming amount of black ads to the freakiness. You should post another one with your eyes completely blacked out ;)
Nice image, but in my view calls for portrait orientation, or, as some have suggested, a different composition. Also, as for the "makeup", how about leaving the goop out of your hair? Might look neat...
Very cool. I like it a lot. I also think a different crop would work better for me. I would go portrait orientation, pretty close, fairly off center. I played with it a little, and I kinda like a 4 degree CCW rotate on it as well. Great pic!
Cool shot, B & W conversion is well done. Only nit pick is the centered composition...Might be better slightly off centre or completely centered with a square crop.
