The blue tones are there but there are hints of green. If duotoning was the point of this exercise, I would advise to remove all green color casts. I agree though that this is a highly effective image in terms of subject and abstraction.

The tone compression works well and makes it look much like a watercolor painting -- a good think IMO in this case. I have access to some of these plants, and I will have to steal try out this technique soon ... : )

I like this one done in blue quite a bit. The cool tones add to the "bite" that you say these guys have - and it sure looks like they have a bite!
