Set up a faux white box using a piece of glass sitting on two box tops on their short sides and with two clamp lamps under the glass. Sliced orange and set on a piece of white paper on the glass.....note to self...time to get a real white box.

Post: Convert from raw with +0.33 exposure compensation. Layer adjustments for levels, brightness/contrast and hue/ saturation. NeatImage was not working to well so I used Power Retouche Noise Filter and then sharpen. Cloned/healed the dust bunnies. Resize. Sharpen.

---Greetings from the Critique Club!---

First Impression - one of the very few true abstracts in the challenge.

I'll start by saying that not many of the entries are what I would call true abstracts. This shot is for sure.

The back lighting works well here. There's a real nice glow to the whole image. Even though your comments say you used noise reduction I still see quite a bit of noise, especially in the shadows.

The liquid feel gives a real sense of motion that is hard to capture. This shot has a lot going for it. The voters may have been too hung up on trying to figure out what it is instead of enjoying the sensory treat this image gives.

I think this shot was under rated, but that's life at DPC, right?

I hope this was helpful. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!

David

I gave this an 8. Nice 'study', colors were nice. Composition very good. Just would like to have seen more translucence in the flesh, using the light more.. but just my opinion.

nice abstract though the colors lack pop - maybe a boost in saturation or contrast would help

Inside the belly of the beast all is yellow, I like the softness of the colors and the feeling of great size.

Pretty abstract to me, I wouldn't have even know it was food. Good take.
