Taken at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in Linville, N.C. This is a photo of a professional highland athlete competing in the 22lb. hammer throw for distance.

Used my Canon 5D, shot wide angle at 24mm, with wide open aperture at f2.8, from the safe side of a chainlink fence. Hence the slight vingetting, because my lense was too wide to fit inside a chain link.

excellent capture. don't sweat the comments about the fence--the fence is the reality of the situation. as is, the fence provides a natural framing, and the timing of the capture couldn't be better.

Interesting and very dynamic. I trying to figure out the cause vignette, like shot through the fence. However, the effcet of the image is very good.

He has a Marilyn Monroe going with his kilt. I hope that he isn't going comando.

Would have liked a more shallow dof, so that the background was not detailed at all. Takes away from the main subject.

7, which is very high for a sports photo from me. I can feel the power and the danger, intensified by the hint of fence in the foreground. 7

Cool shot, I like the framing produced by shooting through the net. I would have liked this image even more if there was a hint of motion blurring going on in the sledge but nowhere else but this is excellent as it is, 7 from me.

It's reamy a pitty that you can't use the advanced edit

hmm, I can't decide if the fence adds a nice framing effect, or is merely distracting.

Love the perspective but the lines from the fence is really distracting.6
