I'm having difficulty seeing the "progress" here, but I can give you the benefit of the doubt.

A B+W or tinted version of this might have looked a bit cooler, especially with more contrast.

What I like about the photo:
I like the composition and subject of the photo..

What could be improved:
Sorry.. but I didn't quite get the idea behind this.. and it's relation to progress..

Is the crop a certain percentage of values using the geometrical law of averages?

Interesting piece of metal. Not sure it screams "Progress" but it at least refers to it tangentially. The picture itself lacks a little in depth, probably due to the lighting conditions.
