Challenge: Stationary (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0L USM
Location: Downtown Ottawa, Ontraio, Canada
Date: Jul 4, 2006
Aperture: 20
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1s
Date Uploaded: Jul 4, 2006

Set Up:
manfrotto tripod (thanks jinxedjester) some ways across the road. Had the beautiful Tazirie run and stand in the middle while the walk sign was on. asked her to stand still for as long as possible while shooting off shots as fast as i could at 1-2.5 seconds of exposure...(btw thank you steveo77 for the filters, and your patiences durring the day, but heck you got a semi-free lunch!)
After a long day at three different locations, and an almost full 2gb memory card, i figured i was spent and my girlfriend was hungry for the cake i promissed her if she helped me.
post pros.
came home and realized i was best off with this shot, everything seemed to work well, the random people walking, the sign on top, a very still looking Taz with just the right look on her face...
basicly:
converted from raw
levels
channel mixer to monochrome
USM
a bit of shadow/highlights
croped
sized and jpeg'ed for DPC

hope you guys liked it as much as Taz liked her cake...
(ps.. she LOVED IT!!! =D)

Excellent choice to enter and a great shot.
The motion around her does such a good job of isolating her and the direction her eyes are pointed makes this look far more natural. Had she been looking at the camera, and had the crossing sign not been illuminated (or cropped out) it wouldn't have nearly the impact.
Well Done!

I agree, this is an underrated shot. I thought it would be in the top 5. Great idea and execution!

that was truly the best picture of this challenge, sorry that dead boats/trucks seem to be more popular...

This should have placed much higher. Haters out there that vote for stuff that doesn't really fit the subject of the challenge but it just a nice photo. No surprise really. Still top 30 finish is good :)

Everything about this image says she should be moving, the people around her, the walk sign. However, her eyes make it look like she is distracted by something and forgot to move when the sign changed from Don't Walk to Walk. Still, she is definitly stationary and the B&W conversion is well done. 8

Love the use of greyscale and the movement around your object.

cool :) I had an idea like this, but not an environment in which to carry it out, nor an attractive model to stand very still for me. I'm finding the white crosswalk symbol at the top distracting, but otherwise, nice job. :)

i think croping down to the very top of the walk sign would look great.

This must have been a hard shot, I dont know many people to stand around long enough for a timed exposure. Good Job

Super. I really like the juxtaposition of the stationary girl with the moving one.

Wow!... I have this same ideia to this challenge, but no time to execute the project. Great photo!

Very well done image, but I am skeptical about it being Stationary. IMO.
07/05/2006 12:54:09 AM
Nice... very nice :) My story would have been complete, though, with the 'stop' signal included in the frame :)
