This is one of the first shots with my new 30D and 24-105 lens. I'm definitely sold on image stabilization. This is a weed growing quite profusely in empty fields around here - all three "blooms" are on the same stalk. I only took about three or four shots before my cat knocked over the whole set-up. The stalk was in a vase in front of a white posterboard under the kitchen table overhead light. Post processing included changing the white balance in RAW, then tweaking the white using selective color to remove yellow and magenta from the white. Selected the center of the flower and did a highlight/shadow to bring it out a bit. USM, resize, add border.

Trading post - Darned cat (I should know - I have three of em). Good comp on this shot. Th e three stages offer good interest. The main flower seems a bit soft - wish it was sharp through out the whole bud. A bit more saturation may have also allowed all three to stand out a bit stronger against the white background. Seems a bit light overall. I think you have a great idea and basic setup here, a couple of tweaks could have made this image stand out even more.

Trading post...
Excellent image! What can I add? It's a beautiful flower shot! The softness on the sides is great. The sharpness on the petals is great. The only thing I might want is maybe more sharpness on the center of the middle flower.

Beautiful soft effect, both in the muted green colour, the softness in the bloom, and the high-key treatment. Really nice. I like the sparseness offered by the bud and the de-petaled (?) blossom; it contrasts well with the full fresh flower.

Terrific picture. I love the color of the bloom, the brown center, the blurring of the leaves and the sweep of the stem to the right of the flower. Setting it off with the white background also works for me. I voted this a 6 as there was some pretty steep competition.

...as for your cat knocking over your set-up, I suspect that he/she was upset for not having a leading role in this image after starring in the twisted glass photo. Divas are like that.

Well. . .that happy, beautiful yellow doesn't look like a weed to me :) It looks radiant! Yep. That new 30D is going to do quite well for you!

Chuckle. For one of your first shots with your new camera, well, you haven't lost your touch. I really like this one, kind of stark and yet hinting at beauty in even the "condemned" species called weeds. Great shot.

This is nice, but with the title as you have it I would like to see all three in focus.

Love the composition on this. The colors seem a little washed out, but it is not a major thing.

A lot of things detract from the flower; the other buds, the missing petal. Otherwise the flower itself is nice and soft and is enhanced by the white background.

I think the softness here works well - enhances subject. Like the composition. 7

I love it! I love the title. It says it all. That bright, perfectly crisp yellow flower really pops against the white background. I love the contrast of the life, the one that hasn't even opened up. . .and the one that's already died. Great work!
