"Metatate" and I went on a 2-hour, before dayjob, expedition and I took 150 various shots. It was hard to decide, but this one came right off the camera in good shape. I cropped out about 4 pillers on the right since the sun was shining directly through the windows on the far side (between the pillars). In this one photo I found about six possible zoom-n-crop pictures. Kind of like the classic brain-teaser puzzles, "how many trianges do you see" in a triangle full of smaller triangles. A nail punctured my left middle-finger while moving a piece of wood-frame out of the way.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

This is a shot that is wonderfully tought out in it's composition and feel as stated from your comments. I love the desolated feeling, it worked and fit perfectly in the challenge.

Two things though jumped out at me right away that bothered me a bit though. First was the lines, wonderful lines, leading me in and around and very intresting but they all seem a bit tilte to the right. A slight rotation to balance them out might not give me the slight feeling of vertigo I feel when I do look at it for too long.

Second was the brightness of the shot. You mention that you cropped out some of the brighter areas, maybe by switching this to b/w or sepia and a bit of burning to take some of the edge of the windows on the left would really bring out the desolate feeling in this shot. Or even adjusting the levels in the color version to help darken some of the areas.

If you rework this shot or try anything else with it I would love to see the results, it's got great potential!

Good luck in future challenges and I hope my comments help!

I like the colors a lot, the loose floorboards, and the genrally abandoned feeling of the interior. The title works perfectly to describe why you chose to not crop out the sunshine and green leaves. It could use a slight counter-clockwise rotation though, 'cause it doesn't look quite straight. Also, I like the angle, but would love to see it from a lower point of view to add some drama. Nice job, though - hope you don't mind my comments.

The greenery is a symbol of encraoching hope and life. Remove that with some processing and then you have more complete desolation.
