This makes me want to cry. Please tell me this dog doesn't have to spend his time tied up like this.

Not fond of the choice of purple tones, but I do like the picture as far as composition and subject.

i cant picture anything more desolate than this, how sad, and unfortunate , the dog house if you can call it that is horribly uncomfortable for this short haired dog, what a desolate way to live.
you captured this very well including the long nails that desperatly need a trim.

this is a good concept..I like the blue duotone used here...it is a thought provoking image, also..

somewhat flat an image...no real color variance...but, the effect somewhat adds to the "sadness" of the photo. great capture. :) 6

amazing expressiveness of the dog, whose plight is accentuated by your camera angle and tortured by the twistings of the chain. The hole in the can is frighteningly ominous. 9.

A touching image as the weight of the expression dominates and does full justice to the title. 7

Aww poor doggie. I am not sure about the tones.

I already voted a while ago, now I'm back for commenting. I gave this picture a 10. I think it conveys the meaning well. Made me quite depressed to tell the truth. I just hope this was a setup shot for the dogs sake. I rescued a dog who lived like this for 5 years, only his chain was only 3 feet long.

good capture and like the expression of the dog, and the literal use of the title is good. I would have maybe gone with a different duotone choice or black and white, it is alittle too purple. I dont feel desolation without the title, but since the description of the challenge is what it means to you I am not judging on those grounds, just my thoughts

This is so sad I could cry. I hope he's just posing for this shot. It's a beautiful dog. The duotone works to bring out the depressing feeling of this image, but I'm not sure the blue tint works for me. Your angle, looking down on this poor dog, adds to the strong emotion I feel when looking at this (that is, it works).

This does evoke a very clear and awful sense of desolation. Very well captured.
