This is my daughter, in our livingroom. :)

My husband was nice to help me and clear out the livingroom, while I painted Tori to look like a ghost. We had her stand near the corner and give us her meanest statue look!

The shutter was open for 8 seconds and she stood there for 3. She did so well at standing like a statue.

Editing - Levels, B&W conversion, cloned out the nails on the wall and the cable jack behind her. Cropped and added border.

I don't know how well this will fare, being she is a person. I also wonder how many others will enter this sort of shot. It doesn't matter to me either way. We had a blast shooting this! :)

love the intensity of her stare - so cute to think of her standing there concentrating on being a statue! My youngest is 11 now, and I miss the days when my kids were cute - but that's branching into another comment!

Do me a favor and get rid of that plug on the wall and I'll give you the 10 this deserves! (like it matters NOW)

great work!

Oh, sheesh, that is quite an eerie picture! I love how she's centered and I love that window to the side of her. I don't love the plug or the corner. But the picture is fantastic all the same, great score too!

::: Critique Club :::

Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club.

First Impression - the most important one:
This is one of my favorites from the challenge .. and I think is extremely well thought out and executed.

Really does meet the challenge ...

Here you did well ... but your little girl is extremely centered in the shot .. I would have loved to have had more empty space to the left of her to create that full empty room feeling .... the expression and the ghost status of her works incredibly well.

Technical (Colour and light):
Black and white was really a must for this shot. The picture is nice and sharp if not a little small. Maximising a shot to 640 (which most people voting allow for on their screens) just creates that slightly bigger impact if an image.

To grow its vote?:
Two things here .. the first is this is advanced so you could have cloned out the plugs .. also I think that having air flapping the curtains would have created a slightly more erie feel.

Great work .. well done.

Nice one. Could have wanted her face had been more clear, but nice modelling

Very cool! The only thing I might have done different would be to back off a little and not make the corner be so centered. Oh and I probably would have straightened the vertical of the corner...

Great image, but she kinda creaps me out a bit! :)

Did I miss where they told everyone to name their image "Left Behind"? ;-)
This is excellent. Creepy and cute at the same time. Good job!

Really like this! Wish the light switch was gone though.
06/10/2006 05:29:11 PM
Great idea.

She looks like she'd make a very disgruntled ghost! The effect is pretty well done though I think you can see a bit of her dress "ghosted" to the left.
06/10/2006 10:42:36 AM
she looks angry.. how did you maker look like a ghost.. i like it
06/10/2006 08:03:49 AM
Well done. One of my favs.

Is she a ghost? I like this. How about trying sadness?

Love the face and superimposing. Don't worry...I know how you did it...I amnot saying you cheated...lmao!!

I'll be stunned if you don't ribbon with this. Besides the creative technique, the girls face is nothing short of haunting. 10

Good "outside the box" thinking. A most haunting picture.
06/06/2006 09:02:05 PM
Mom, I missed the plane? :o)

I do not feel the emptiness of the room because such a small part of it is shown.
06/06/2006 08:33:55 PM
spooky, nice
06/06/2006 05:59:34 PM
Intriguing shot, it holds my attention. The curtain on the right is a little bit distracting.
06/06/2006 06:39:36 AM

06/06/2006 12:14:04 AM

Reminds me of a poster for a scary movie - great shot!
06/05/2006 09:20:45 PM
she looks pissed, love it
06/05/2006 08:29:08 PM
reminds me of the old victorian photo you see 8
06/05/2006 06:58:59 PM
This is someone, not something. Blown out light from the window is distracting.
06/05/2006 05:01:51 PM
Nice double exposure. Certainly adds and eerie effect and mood to the image. The singe black border adds a nice effect. Well done!
06/05/2006 09:44:15 AM
I like the idea and the realization is good. the switch on the right distracting, since is a small element you can clone the wall on it for a better effect.
best regards

I think this is one of my favorites of the challenge, creepy too, nice work, 10

A similar idea we must have had. I like yours better than mine. Technicalities to follow: the curtains are (or seem to be) blown out. Your exposure of the room without a girl could have been shorter... composition: you should have positioned her so that the corner line runs through at least her shoulder or her left arm to enhance the ghost effect. Overall 8 in a first pass.
