I really like how this shot shows the ball floating in space ... sort of reminds me of the relationship between Earth and the Universe.

Taken with an external flash

Photoshop:
Cropped
Level adjust
Issolated ball (adjusted blues)
Issolated room (adjusted walls to a more yellow tone)

First .. thanks for the great comments from everyone .. and now a little on how this shot was taken:

Used an external flash and a 0.5x Raynox wide angle lens (which gives the rooms that strange curved feeling). The room was initially lit with just a little ambient light (from an open door and a window that I had covered with a curtain). The flash was pointed straight up at the ceiling so as to illuminate the ball via more ambient light. I set the camera on a stand roughly in the middle of the room and set the shutter length to 1/5. Put the camera on a timer and threw the ball toward the wall. Flash goes off capturing the ball, the streak was caused by the "extra" shutter time after the flash. This gave the illusion that the ball was coming off the wall .. however it was actually being thrown toward the wall.

Post processing:
-Issolated the ball the walls and the floor
-Played with the levels on each seperately
-Changed the colour tone on the ball (the ball is actually purple not blue)
-Changed the colour tone of the walls (the walls aren't really so yellow)
-Used a dust and scratch's filter on the whole image to give it a surreal feel

Hey there from the Critique Club

Camera Work/Technical: Overall, this is a nice image Your focus is crisp, the image is very clean, and your colors and tones are great.

Lighting: Your lighting is also very nice. There are no harsh shadows or blown highlights, thus leaving all the detail for the viewer to see.

Composition/Content: The corner of the room works very well for this composition to really flow. Both the upper and lower room corner work very well to draw the eye into the frame. The ball with its blur trail also works well as yet another leading line.

My Opinion: I think that you met the challenge well, and did so in a creative manner. It just seems that this was not the type of image the average voter was expecting.

First impression is a nice and clean picture, but I don't like the apparent trail of the ball. I am new here but assume it is within the advanced editing rules, but beats me how it is done other that some serious postproc?

This is a lovely piece of abstract art which could be rendered in almost any medium, photographically probably being the hardest : )

Quite creative! The room doesn't look quite real but it's a surreal picture of sorts so that's OK.

Good technique (interested to see how it was done). I'm not totally convinced by the final composition, but a very good effort nonetheless.

Hahaha, as soon as I saw this, I knew it was going to say "This photo has been validated." Very cool effect, but whatever is holding your globe up, I can see the shadow (how I knew it wasn't a fake, anyhow). I like this- 7 for me

Very graphic, although I do not feel the emptiness of the room because such a small part of it is shown.

There's something about this that I really like. The geometric patterns and depth of this image are extrememly appealing. Well done.
