I didnt vote in this challnege but I would have probably gone with a 5 on this. Its a funny idea but lacking any kind of pop. More of your eye would have been nice and maybe a different color shirt. The shot has a brown kind of feel to it and a little bit of color could have livened it up a bit. The background is a bit distracting, but the overall focus is good. If you could have included something to send home the idea that its DPC that youare looking at outside of the title (maybe clutching a brown ribbon in your hand) that would have added to the interest. Overall not a bad shot just not a great one.

Composition
composition is good, in terms of the "baghead" in the upper left third, and the laptop in the bottom right. The home/offic-ey environment makes it a more cluttered composition though, especially with the detail in the blinds.

Technical stuff (exposure, dof, lighting etc…)
wb seems a little off, but exposure and focus seem good. You may have been able to isolate the subject from the b/g more with a shallower dof though

Post-processing
I'd like to see a little more contrast in it, to make it pop more and be less snapshotty

Message/atmosphere portrayed
Well, you did kinda bring it upon yourself with that title! :P Although the paper bag fits, another way of "hiding" from your score may have been better, so as to make your expression visible and give more emotion.

Meeting the challenge
Yeah, sure

My personal opinion
I wouldn't have expected this to score very high, just because its quite a familiar idea - not necessarily exactly that idea, but in terms of comments on scores/people at laptops etc. Would have needed an extra creative something to bring it further

I didn't vote in Failure, but I think this image would only get a 5.

what I found wrong with it.. the Crop, it's in portrait mode, so you cut a part of the right hand, and a part of the computer, a full square crop could have included those.

the lighting is ok, but the whitebalance is wrong, the arms are really red, and the blinds seems a bit too tan.

you show a piece of one eye, to show the whole eye would have given the viewer a better connection with the subject.

and there is a small gap between blinds just above the computer screen.

Camera Work/Technical: Very nice focus, depth of field and great toning to give a very secluded feel to the photograph. I think you lost a little detail in the black shirt, but that's easily remedied with a slightly longer exposure.

Lighting: I like it. The lighting works very well to provide you with some very interesting tines in this one.

Composition/Content: Not bad, but I'd like to see where that right arm goes. It really pulls me out of the frame, and there is nothing in that area to get me back into it.

My Opinion: I said earlier that it makes me think too much. That might have been after hanging out with my buddy Sam Adams too long that particular evening. I think that it's very creative, and it does portray failure. I do not believe that it is a sub-5 photograph, but I also don't think that it was exactly what the voters were looking for.

Heh! This is pretty good! Only immediate improvement in "context" is to show the screen with the DPC page up - relies on title too much otherwise. Composition is not bad but the blinds in the background seem to draw my eye away from the subject. The baghead part is too darn funny - voters need to work on their sense of humor just a bit.

Edit to add - after reading Kelli's comments, yes, it would be nice to see an eye a bit clearer.

Trading post...
This is funny! Too many grouchy people that don't have a sense of humor on this site, IMHO. The right arm (on the left) is a little bright. I can just barely see one eye, I think an improvement would have been to see at least all of one eye and maybe some of the other. Other than that, great job!

Bringing fun into a challenge with a negative title is risky, but you did it very well.

Great lighting and nice tones, but this one makes me think too much. I like the various tones produced by the different lighting.

hey, looks like you have the same computer as my bf, I have the new version though, cuz mine broke and had to be replaced.... but great idea and really nice focus in the right places, and I think the lamp lighting works good for this shot, only thing, maybe could have worked better with a solid background
