No actors were harmed in the making of this photo. Do not try this at home, trained stunt actors (yeah, right) were used in a specially designed room (my kitchen)to create this photo.

Other than that, this was a pain to photograph because I kept moving to avoid getting burned and had to take lots of shots to get it to look anywhere near decent. I anticipate your comments. It isn't out of focus...I moved a lot...it was hot (that's why it's in the "heat" challenge. My nails got a PP manicure to help clean up the blurring.

Next time I have a bright idea like this, I'll pass on the challenge. In order to make the burner appear red I had to use a slower shutter speed (no flashes, no room lights, just slower speeds) and experimented until I got it as fast as I could and minimize the blurring. In the words of the song, "the heat is ... on".

Camera Work/Technical: Very nice exposure control, and I think that the motion blur adds to the overall feel of the photograph. Perfect white balance, and great choice of aperture to keep the entire frame in focus.

Lighting: The lighting in this one works very well. You did a very nice job bringing out the red of the burner, and your skin tones all look properly lit.

Composition/Content: Very interesting. The leg and foot serve very well to draw the viewer's eye into the frame, and the burner works well to keep it there. The toenails are too much. They really stand out against the motion blur of the foot. I think that I would have left them dirty.

My Opinion: You met the challenge, but, as mentioned before, feet do not normally score very well. There are some small improvements that would make the shot a better photograph, but I don't think your scoring would benefit much either way. This is an odd place sometimes.

To be honest, while the concept is ok, the blur on the foot and the "painted on" nails really spoil this. Also, theres the matter of "why are you holding your foot over a stove?" Its not bizarre enough to be quirky, imho, just a bit strange. Having said all that, I was surprised it did not do better than this.

OK, first off most foot shots are judged bad, just because they're a foot! I think the concept fell flat because really, who would be walking across their stove? I didn't vote in this challenge but if I had I probably would have given this a 4.

hello again,

it seems a lot like my dinnerware shot. nothing of interest. and you gotta blurry foot to "boot". lol.

the amount of blur is not conveying motion but poor focus. i think had you got the foot to leave a trail it would have been better. possibly stopped the trail with a flash output to show some foot detail.

I'm sorry to say, but this is a horrible picture ;)

the foot is moved due to very slow shutterspeed, and those toenails are hidious, probably due to oversharpening, they look like painted in the picture.

compaired to your other challenge entries this one hopefully will be forgotten soon :)

Heh - it wasn't a dumb idea, other than you really shouldn't burn your foot for the sake of a challenge entry - and it did meet the challenge, plus the title was really quite good... But the blurred foot with the post-processed toenails just was a bit too weird-looking in the end. Just try to do something a wee bit less dangerous for the next one, OK? :-)

Sometimes you just get a dumb idea...this was it for me.

And here was me thinking I was stupid in my entry! Pity the foot isn't sharp and on my monitor there seems to be something funny going on with your toe nails? A definite feeling of heat here!

This looks painful. Ouch. Good idea, but there's something weird going on with the foot... blur?

DOF somewhat hindered this photo! I believe it would be striking for the foot & the "eye" to be in sharp focus. Knowing my own challenges with DOF & focus in lighting other than sunlight, I can't imagine you would be able to accomplish my suggestions without the use of a tripod. In this low light a four second exposure might be necessary to push the aperture to F/8 or F/11. Anyhow, my greatest experience with hyperfocal distance is at F/22 in bright sunlight. My ideas here a based purely on logic...So, please take them for what they are worth. (Since the challenge is Heat, the concensus may be that you hit the mark accurately. You have certainly demonstrated a wonderful ability to "hot-foot it!" :)

Why do the toes looked so smudged? Thought it was from motion, but it doesn't really look like a motion blur.

Focus on the foot is a little off and the toenails are too sharp (the focus that is:-) Great concept though
