This photo isn't great, I know. But I worked hard getting this, working with the lighting, etc, so I've decided to submit it.

Today is exactly one year since my father passed away, and I've realized how much I've grown in that year.

This is the first photograph I've ever allowed other people to see that shows how imperfect I am. It's not a flattering position, you can see the stress breakout I have going on in my forhead, the freckle on my nose, my bloodshot eyes, stray hairs, and my jutty teeth, that I am too self conscious to show anyone. For me, this photo is more than just blown highlights and uneven eye lighting. It's about exposing the real me.

I hope you don't turn away in disgust, ha ha...

post challenge: My first above 6, hoorah! Thanks for all the comments, I'm really proud of this. : D

Next time you're feeling low, come back to this picture and remind yourself what you're capable of. I answered in your thread, but saw this and wanted to comment here as well. This is a beautiful self-portrait and you obviously agonized over sharing this much of yourself. You have a good eye and understand the art of expression.

Keep at it. You clearly love what you do.

Beautiful pic, beautiful lady. I like the lighting very much, not only on your face but along the shirt as well. Very nice.

Where? Maybe a bit oversharpend but truly captures a unique face. I'd like to see a bit more of the right eye (just a bit more sparkle.) I like how you're looking off to the side. Works.

Returning for comments.

The highlights are a bit harsh but overall I like the tonal range you captured. Good luck in the challenge.

The expression on the face shows a kind of sad emotion, the lighting and composition adds to that. Not perfect but surely a 7 (lighting being a big part of that).

I am wondering why the title 'imperfections'...amazing face and eyes, what's imperfect? if anything, the image has it's problems, not you!!! perhaps a little overprocessed

This is a very beautiful portrait. It has a charm and elegance that is missing from many of the stridently glamorous shots. The lighting, both of the subject and the background, is terrific and, for what it may be worth (or not), it makes a very appealing statement about the character of the subject. I think it has the qualities that will make it an enduring photograph. If I were you I'd be very proud of this searching and satisfying work. 8.

Love your top - and imperfections are what make life interesting. Which means I'm one of the most fascinating people on Earth.

Nice lighting and how it reaches the background. The expression is a little candid but looks good
