Don't know much about still life but looking at past challenges and other stuff online I figured I at least produced something that could pass off as that. What I was trying to do was to capture an early morning scene with the glass a symbol of the night before. Not sure how well that translated.

Editing:

- Curves
- Hue/Saturation
- Selective color
- Shadow/Highlights
- USM (local contrast technique)
- Noise Ninja
- Smart Sharpen
- Convert to Grayscale
- Convert to Duotone
- Convert to RGB

This is pretty cool. A new personal best in placing. Thank you to everyone who thought kindly of this.

CPT!!, oi!

The great tonality in this shot just shouts, sir.
Very clean, almost sterile.
Kudos for the "spicy" background not being distracting BUT enhancing. Amazing clarity and detail. Another great job, sir.

Greetings from your own critique club.

First Impression
When I see this during the voting, I said WOW!!!!One of my pick for the ribbon. Glad to see it came so close.
Composition:
Very good composition.
Subject:
I really like the subject. Not usual subject for the "Still Life". Very creative, I am glad that DPC didnot turn this down just because it's out of the box.
Technical (Colour and light):
Perfect, can't be better. The ligting, exposure, colors, sharpness, softness everything is spot on. You achieved this with basic editing...Wonderful.
Improvement:
Sorry, can't think of any.
Summary:
Wonderful image, definately having the WOW factor.

Congratulations on your 4th place. Go and get the ribbon. Best of luck...

First impression: Pure, crisp, bright, lovely duotone image.
What can you do better?:
Well you lucky skunk :-), again in the top 10 and now in the top 5.
Almost a ribbon!!!
The only thing I see is a tiny water drop on the side of the glass. Dry it off :-)

Hey Richard -

Nice clarity, good color, good light - easy to see why this scored so well. Congrats! I did not get the "night before" connotation. Possibly because the bed looks too neat. The background is a little busy, so I find myself wanting to look beyond the glasses more than I want to look at the glasses themselves.

Hello from Álex, CTP MkII

First Impression: Congrats for your best placing. WOW a 4th is a great thing. I've never achieved even a top ten... Great image.
Composition: Very good. The glass and the jug aren't centered, what helps the comp.
Subject: Nice election of the subject for this challenge. I'm not sure about the glass as a symbol of the night, but is a nice subject anyway.
Technical: absolutely perfect focus and use of DOF, with the subject in sharp focus and the BG blurred but not very much. The tonality of the image is great, love it so much...
Improvement: we're in the group for learning, so even in this image I must find flaws...LOL. Well, sorry if I seem fussy, but the borders of the glass and the jug are a bit oversharpened (a small halo on top) and there are some drops on the left of the glass.
Summary: Really great image almost flawless.

I don't know about the glass from the night before part, but this is an exceptionally clean, well-balanced, and intriguing picture. Love the tones. Congrats on a new personal best - well deserved with this image!

Hi from CTP2:

Way to go on the 4th place finish!!

This is a nice clean shot, with a very elegant look to it. The color tone is great, as is the lighting. I kind of like the way my eye keeps jumping to the background and then coming back to the glass. I'm having a hard time thinking of improvements.
Great job!

Hi from Cp2!

Congratulations on 4th place!!! Well done:)

The lighting is good. It reminds me of a relaxed early morning.
This is a more 'traditional' still life shot.
The greyscale works well

Really like the B&W approach (bet it simplified the image a bunch). Table edge needs to be straightened but otherwise very nice work.

This is very attractive. I love the soft warm browns and the excellent focus on the glasses that you achieved. Good choice on the glass & the vase...great shapes and it's nice that you didn't choose two matching pieces.

Clean to the point of being surgical. Beautiful toning job. Unusual to include so many background elements but your foreground subject pair seem strong enough to carry it off. 8.

Outstanding detail and nice light but the composition is awkward the background far too cluttered for my taste.

I'd be very suprised if this one didn't win. The colour and lighting of the scene is excellent with great depth of field. But above all that, the reflections are the piece de resistance. The only tiny, slightly annoying thing is the really small droplet that is to the left of the reflection of the picture in the glass. Almost unavaoidable though so I'll give you a nice round 10!

This meets the challenge - inanimate and arranged. I have a feeling the background distracts rather than complements.

I like that this is not a color image. The B&W adds to it.
