Challenge: Environmental Portrait (Advanced Editing IV)
Collection: Challengers
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Location: Caloundra Fire Station, Qld, Australia
Date: May 13, 2006
Galleries: Portraiture, Photojournalism
Date Uploaded: May 13, 2006

I had a blast at the local "fire station", taking photos for the "Enviromental Portrait" challenge, as the guys agreed to rig up in all their protection gear for me.

The three on duty firemen were Mark, the giant, Steve, the hunk, and John, the clown. You can tell that the image I chose to enter, is of Steve. I especially love the cute "twinkle" in his eye.

We had so much fun during the shoot, and I will post some "outtakes" here, and also in my portfolio, after the challenge.

Well he sure is a hunk :P i love this photo.. the way he's looking away from you to the sky makes it special. There is some thing a bout the postpro, that dosen't quite make it for me..maybe that the red channel is to high dont know.. but the set up and over all image is great :)

Underrated! Great job on this, Sherryl! Didn't vote the challenge but a definite 9 from me! (a 10 if you would've started a fire in the village behind him) ;-)

Strong sense of character here, which is good. There's a sense, around his face, of some over-processing: the detail there seems rather created than naturally captured - some areas seem slightly blurred together, but that could of course just be compression to get the file size down.

He looks great, but it could use more environment.

His skin tone seems a little too red, but great shot. One of the few I have seen that truly meets the challenge.

Very nice environmental portrait! I really like how the uniform pops so brightly against the background. Good expression on the model!

Nice shot with a good backround but I am not fond of the coloring in this photo, his skintones are very red and I have a feeling that is not how he is in real life, think it has more to do with the WB and saturation of this image.

This is a nice image that needs some help in the coloring dept.. The pink shift is a little heavy.

The man has an unnatural tone in his face.

He looks a little bit too red, don't you think? Otherise I like the portrait, especially the composition.

It has an overall 'overprocessed' look to it, the skin tones on the face don't appear natural. Perhaps too heavy on the NI.

Is he really that sunburnt, or did something happen in PP?

Great look and light but I would like to see more environment (fire truck/house/people) to add context.

Great environmental portrait. There seems to be a rather a red tint to the skin though - this would benefit from a little colour correction there I think.

awww. this could have been great if his "environment" had a fire or cat stuck in a tree, firehouse, fire truck. Something to tie it all in.
