Challenge: Desolation (Classic Editing)
Camera: Canon PowerShot A40
Location: An Old Dirt Road
Date: Aug 10, 2003
Aperture: 2.8
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/800
Galleries: Vintage, Rural
Date Uploaded: Aug 12, 2003

I found this lovely little house when I took a wrong turn and got lost on a backwoods road. It seemed like it fit the challenge well enough.

Unfortunately, I wasn't photo hunting at the time so the only camera I had on me was the A40. I didn't use any sharpening because I thought the soft look gave it a more gloomy feel.

This shot looks just a bit faded out but a good pic for B&W. Meets the challenge. Good luck.

image very grey. would like to see more contrast to bring out the whites and blacks.

I would have liked this sharper, the focus seems to soft. I realise it gives the shot more "mood" but somehow it detracts.

This image sets a great mood. I would have preferred a bit more contrast, but the way it is does make it seem really gloomy. And this is probably a weird thing to comment on, but I really like the contrasts in the colors of the trees in the background.

Abandoned buildings do not desolation make

The building is just too dark to be your focal point. It gets lost in the shadows, which may or may not be your intention, but in this case I think it would be better if we could see more of the character of the building.

this image feels a bit flat

It's too bright. I think incresing the contrast will produce a more dramatic effect
