CPTII, oi!

Wow, nice cityscape. Flip it horizontally and you'd've got "DPC" on them lights.;p
The colours are amazing, the exposure dead on, but it's the sharpness (or un-sharpness, rather) that hurt your shot, placing it where it is now. So mebbe a little more sharpening next time.

From the CTP MkII

First Impression: WOW. What a wonderful skylight.

Composition: Very nice. I don't know if it's lighty tilted. Maybe with less sky was better, but I know that with restrictions of size on DPC would have worked worse on score.

Subject: Beautiful. That skyline, with the reflections, the lights,...

Technical: Very good exposure, colors OK.

Improvement: see composition

Summary: Really great shot to hang on a living room.

Hi Shailesh from Rebecca of your CTP2 group!

Ahh, Chicago... I'm almost but not really from there, and seeing that familiar skyline tugs at my heart ;-)

I like the reflection on the water, subtle but very nice. The image isn't quite sharp, and I wonder if the tripod was shaking a bit? Chicago isn't called the Windy City for nothing. I would have moved the vantage to the right just a touch, so the CPD-lit building on the right border isn't cut off at all, and so the Sears Tower at the left side is a little closer to that border without touching it. I would crop out some of the sky so that there is the same amount of sky above the Sears Tower as there is water in the bottom of the photo, to give it a more balanced, panoramic feel. There is also a fair bit of noise visible in the sky, so a pass through NI to clean that up wouldn't hurt.

From the Critique Post II

Hey!

I'm not sure there is too much t critique here. The scene is really magnificent and a good choice. Unfortunately, this particular scene has been shot many times at dpc so your shot might have been compared some from the past.

The reflection here is really great and I really like the light in the lower BG. The focus, however, is too soft anf takes away a bit from the beauty of the cityscape. I would only suggest that trying to use a higher ISO (maybe 400 or higher) & a 2 to 3 second shutter speed might have yielded a sharper image without overexposing the lights.

Last technical note would be that the choice of aperture was dead on & quite apparent & consistent through the shot.

Hopre this helps.
Peace
Rusia

from CTP2:

I like this shot a lot. The colors are nice ( or sort of lack of color, really). Cityscapes are always pretty at night (although I always sort of cringe at how much electricty is being sucked up).
It could be a tad sharper. I'm wondering what it might have looked like with more of the water. I really like the reflctions that are going on there, where as the black sky is sort of blank.
Overall a great picture.

Greetings from CTP2

Unfortunately, I couldn't finish voting in the night challenge so I didn't get to yours. :( Had I did I don't see how I could have scored this anything less than a 7. What stands out for me is the color tone. It really sets an nice mood as well as the water reflection, which has a painterly look. I really don't have anything negative to say other than I really like the look you've acheived. The score you got doesn't seem right. My only guess on that is people wanted to see more sharpeness/clarity and a few stars, a moon and a UFO probably wouldn't have hurt. :P

Nice shot, but why is the title separated by periods?

The horihon line is weird here, no? I can be simply perspective, and it´s easy to corect in PS (rotate canvas, freely +- 1º). This kind of picture is very impressive. But you need to bring out more light. It can be done with higher ISO. In a cloudy night, the low clouds reflect the city light giving you a great vision. Try it some day.

So, Chicago is an acronym...? This shot suffers a bit from a little lack of clarity. I might prefer to see more of the reflections in the water than the sky.

Absolutely great cityline. I like the almost duotone effect. 9.

My husband and I stayed there at the Congress Plaza Hotel last March while we were filming for the Ultimate Blunders show that will be shown on the Learning Channel in June.

I think this could have been an awesome photograph if taken a bit earlier in the evening. Right around dusk the sun is down, but there's still some nice blue hues left in the sky. With the blak sky it's a bit too contrasty for my taste.

Very nice composition and post-processing. The bottom-crop is perfect - just the right balance of water reflections and dark sky. Good luck Shailesh!
