From the Critique Club:

Wow... This is a very interesting shot. And definately right on challenge.

What I like: First of all, the rythm and repetition jump right out at you a slap you in the face! Very cool! Love the colors of the thing... What is it exactly? :-P Love the reflection: Is it on a mirror or a glass table? I think it's a table because of the line just above the object that has reflections and you can see through it also. Your DOF is awesome. You're a little soft at the top of the object where it goes out of frame but this is just a sniglet. Incredibly well done!

What I don't like: Well people have already said it over and over again, but your background definately detracts from and competes with the subject of the shot. Black background would have worked VERY well and possibly have moved this up into ribbon contention! Top right corner, your subject moves out of frame right in the corner. Bottom left it moves out of frame just above the corner. I keep wondering how it would have looked either moving the top right down in frame out of the corner. This would have given a touch cleaner line. Either that or move the bottom left down into the corner making a true diagonal.

Why didn't this score higher? I think your background was your downfall in this though 6.3 is still a damn good score!
Kudos

Very cool photo! I really like the colors and the lighting. And can't argue with fitting the challenge. The only slightly bothersome thing is that parts of the background are a little distracting. Actually, maybe I like it that way... can't decide. It looks good in the foreground part of the image.
Overall I liked this a lot, and can't suggest anything to improve.
So what is it, anyway??

From the CTP MkII

First Impression: Nice and rhythmic studio shot.

Composition: very good diagonal from left bottom to upper right.

Subject: Quite interesting subject for this challenge. It creates a nice sense of rhythm, with the reflection.

Technical: Very good light and DOF.

Improvement: I don't like the BG, it's distracting to me, sorry. I think it would have worked better with a black BG, but it's just an opinion.

Summary: Very nice shot with good lightening.

Hi from CP2!!

Nice use of colour.
The focus is good.

The plastic(or whatever it is) in the background gives an interesting texture, but its a bit distracting.

Hope it helped:)

Hi Shailesh!

Is it a telephone cord? I can't tell what it is, though I didn't hold this against you in voting. I think what puts me off the most about this is that the red seems oversaturated while the rest has no color at all and I'm puzzled by this choice. It's difficult to say anything about an abstract, however, that isn't just a matter of personal taste. You finished well with it, so good job!

Comment from a member of your own commenting club :-)
First impression
1. What is this?
2. Beautiful thing but what is it?
3. On a mirror but what is it?
4. Good focus
5. Nice setup.
6. Is this plastic behind the thing that I do not know what is?
What could be better
1. Looks a bit grainy in the left side above the ......
2. Put a frame on it to stop the Viewer from going out of the picture
Nothing more to say. Hope my wonderings help.

interesting with the repetiton of the spirals as well as the reflection of the entire peice. I'm not sure what you used as a backround here but it works well.

I've looked at this several times and still not sure what it is, but I love the curves and the way it draws the eye across the photo. Great color. Not so fond of the background though.

Vary nice object and colours. I think monochromatic background would help a lot. This one (even with the selective desaturation) is a bit too busy.

Lighting looks good and detail looks sharp, but I find that the background is a little distracting.

Great texture in this photo. Background seems a bit too sharp. a shallower DOF would fit my tastes better as it would distract from the main subject less. My guess is that this'll do very well still and its one of my top scorers in this comp. Good luck!

I simply love this. The vibrant red/gold against the grey background really works well here. I even find the BG interesting by itself. Lovely!!10

Like the subject, hate the background. The subject is complex all by itself and the background is really competing with it. - 6

I like everything but the background. It's a shame, it would be so much better a photo.

Nice set up...to think that plastic sheeting somehow just layed over top of itself could really bring out the the main subject. Nicely done.

Don't care for the background, but the curves and dynamic.
