IMHO it would be a stronger picture if you zoom in on the door and steps. and show how rottenand dirty those step look.

nice contrasts, the door and the corner break up the pattern well so the picture has focal points and is not monotonous

the extreme contrasts distracts a bit more than transmit desolation

Your use of high contrast here really works well. It gives the image a very stark and uninviting look. Nice entry for this assignment.

Yes I can see the desolation here. I love the texture you find it there. This is much better when many people tried to shoot the entire house. You have chosen just a part of it and it works. Good luck
