April 27-28 was the 112th Penn Relays, the worlds largest annual track and field event. Hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, the event draws 20,000 competitors and over 100,000 spectators.

This was one of the last events before my battery went out. I'd wanted to get some good images of the Mens Polevault, but... I do have some good outtakes though.

Although my related Photojournalism entry is going strong, I think this one will score lower in Rhythm. I'm going to say 5.2. (I'm glad I was wrong. Not by much.)

Outtakes:

I love the look of determination on some of the athletes faces, especially the Womens Triple Jump.

This has been an exciting week watching the scores on my Photojournalism hover around 7.0. At the same time I had the irony of having my personal worst image (Freestudy XI) the same week as my personal best. mk said it best, "It's good to have them both in the same way...you're too busy basking in the glow to feel disappointed. ;) Congrats!"

And she's right as always...

Nice action shot. Not a single persons feet are on the ground and the shadows are a nice detail. The repetion here is nice as well.

this angle is not working for me, Im not feeling the rythm of them running or moving for that matter.I think it was a good idea worth trying a reshoot on (if possible)but I really like the action of them frozen in mid air.

What a difference having the racers makes in turning a static shot into a very dynamic one.

I'm not a fan of the sports photography, but this works so well for the challenge. It would have been nice had they not knocked over the 2 front hurldes, but I think almost works as if it were intentional.
