Greetings TO the Critique Club. Thank you for letting me know the proper decorum on commenting on my own work. I want you to know I find this very difficult to do. I am a very new photographer and am apprehensive to look like I either, don't know what the heck I am talking about or, even more dreadfull, look like I think I know it all when in fact I know nothing. That bieng said I am not very happy with this photo the DOF seems far to shallow and leaves too much of the flower just slightly out of focus. I do however think that my croping is quite creative and I enjoy how the black complements the yellow and assists in making the subject stand out. I have yet to fiqure out how to get that incredibly crisp focus that I have seen others attain so perfectly. Perhaps you can give me some clues. I have always owned point and shoot and just recently have purchased a D70, the controll is daunting and I find something new every time I take it out.

Thank you

Greetings from the Critique Club...

I no longer offer in depth critique on photos when the photographer hasn't included his/her own thoughts and comments on the image when it is submitted to the challenge.

My critique wouldn't be worth much not knowing what you think about your own image.

Great colors and good background choice to set off the brilliant yellow.

I find very distracting the shallow depth of field you've used, as it totally blurs the top half of the flower. It's still a good picture, but it leaves something significant to be desired. You might have used a narrower aperture, or focused at an interim portion of the subject, so to leave more of it at both ends in the circle of confusion.

Seems to be mostly out of focus. I would not have cut the bottom off the flower.

Bright and cheerful photo. I like that you framed with the bottom of the flower cropped, but I wonder if it might of looked more balanced if you had done something to one side or the other.
