This old fella came over to talk to me while I was shooting scenics. We sat down on a bench for a while and chatted. He is of the many indigent elderly in Hawaii (and the US). He lives at the beach park. He used to live near town when he was young and worked in the fields. Now he eeks out a living from collecting bottles and cans and whatever handouts he gets from his family, who have mostly foresaken him.

Some sort of reflector held to the gentlemen's left would have improved this shot immensely. As it is, there are just too many shadows obscuring his features, especially his eyes. You needed just the amount of a light a white posterboard would have reflected to retain some shadow area needed to emphasise the lines in his face but reveal more sparkle in his eyes.

too much back light. A reflector or flash fill would have helped this picture.

Nice shot, would like to see the face lit more though. Maybe you can burn it a little in photoshop and make it come out a bit more.

This character study suffers from the very high contrast lighting with insufficient lighting on the face and excessive brightness on the shoulders and top of the head.
