This was taken at the San Antonio Zoo. I got a couple of comments questioning whether or not it was candid -- I assure you -- it was taken with my 70-300 zoom lens of a little girl I don't know and was very much candid.

That's what I love about candid photography! You catch people looking natural and interesting because they are not awkwardly posing for the camera. Just because they look like portraits doesn't mean they weren't taken candidly. Candid doesn't have to be capturing people doing something silly, it's just capturing someone when they don't know you are capturing them!

Anyway. . .that's my 2-cents. This is the type of candid photography I love :)

What a great picture! I thought it should have finished better!

Sandy - your people pictures are always wonderful. The lighting, the color, the clarity are all above average for a candid shot, and those eyes REALLY get your attention! Nice work, as usual!

Beautiful. I love how your candids have such crisp focus on the subject and shallow DOF.

What a little doll! I'm so glad you added your definition of a candid to the author's notes, Sandy. It's a good reminder that it's not always possible to see whether an image meets the challenge definition. Sherpet posted other great examples from your portfolio of your candids... they're all telling a story, in my opinion. Nice job!

This is a magical "candid" image. I love this one so much, that I have now added it to my favorites.....
I feel you have been robbed, as you deserved a much higher score..... If anyone takes a visit to your portfolio, they will see some more of your magicical candid images like these.....
Here are some examples.

Good one Sandy, love the colors. A beautiful shot of a beautiful young girl. Her expression says innocence and curiosity to me. Don't see how anyone could think this was not 100% candid. It's too honest to be staged.

You really like the zoo. I'm considering a pass as well (and a larger lense). Nice picture. I suspect the tight crop is what gets folks on the candid. Some sort of framing from fore ground objects can help set her off.

The lens information on the side doesn't match what you put in the description.

Such a tight crop makes it more of a portrait than a candid - a candid needs to tell a story and so you need to include a bit of the surrounds to help tell that story.

As you look in her beautiful eyes, you can almost see the question in her mind of: "Who are you?". Wonderful composition, DOF, and colors in this photograph. Great capture!!! 10

I'm not much for receiving or giving comments, but since Candids are
near and dear to my heart, I have decided to give comment on every entry
in this challenge.

To me, this is more portrait then candid, although it is a candid look. Children are far too easy to get candids from, and this is really no exception. I really don't find much interest in this shot as a candid. She is darling, but what I care to see in a candid is something a bit more out of the ordinary, that sparks an interest or emotion that one wouldn't normally see every day or notice every day, and/or something with a bit of a story or kick to it. This is a 3 for me.

Unaware? Inwhat sense exactly? One can almost see the photographers light-coloured shirt reflected in her pupils. Odd titling indeed. Decent enough shot, but I think some more care might have gone into processing - the skin tones are just a little flat to my eye.

I like the crop on this and the colours in the background work well with the foreground colours.

A Magic Photo with a subtle mood portrayed by the subject, good use of appeture to take out the background...10
