As it happened, my two best images from 2002 were taken on the same day, 09/18. I've always attributed that it was a great day to shoot because it was the birthday of a my best friend from high school who died in '94. Still miss him and all the good times we had in HS and College and after.

I've tried, as you may see, to shoot this again as I updated cameras, but I never got the same gold highlights on the buildings, well not without of lot of bad manipulation. The city was bright with sun all day and towards the end of the day when the sun was starting to go down (shot at 06:43 PM according to the exif) the highlights I saw had me running out of the office to shoot this. And I'm always glad I did. Here's to you, Jimmy.

If you have ever been to my Website, the first version of this is on the cover page....uh oh....be back....ah that's better.

Post: Perpsective and distortion corrections (vertical only, the horizontal corrections just get out of whack after a while, I've come to learn). Layer adjustments for levels, brightness/contrast and hue/saturation. Sharpen. Crop. Clone a bit of dark in the bottom left corner and some lights out of the building on the right. Resize. USM. Save for web.

Hello from the critique club!

First of all, this is a really good image. I like how the man-made buildings are reflecting the beauty of nature, it's almost ironic really, that nature is shining through the objects that have been built up to block it out.

The golden colours are really nice, they complement the blues of the sky fantastically. The building in between is well framed by the others reflecting the sky, without that in there this would be a boring shot.

The only thing I can think of that might improve this would be the angle of the outer bulidings, particuarly the one to my right. The angle seems just a bit wonky, I would like it straight to complement the rigid and geometrically perfect shapes of the buildings. That would probably be terribly hard to do though, but a small crop off the top could help.

All in all this is a lovely image, you should be proud of it. :)
