Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: 2-Second Exposure (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Canon EF 17-40mm f/4.0L USM
Location: Back Room, CA
Date: Mar 17, 2006
Aperture: f/6.3
ISO: 100
Shutter: 2 seconds
Galleries: Sports, Action
Date Uploaded: Mar 18, 2006

Simple set up. Desk lamp on a bar stool next to the pool table with the camera/tripod right next to it - turned off all the other lights (obviously). Set shutter priority to 2-seconds. Took 35 shots to get the timing and angle just right (as I was rolling the ball by hand while extending the shutter release as far as it could go). Some very minor burning/cloning to remove blemishes and glare from 8-ball. Some white balance and color sat modifications as well, but that's about it. Hope you like it!

Great job on this photograph. How many times did you try?

Great timing to catch this just before the eight ball moves!

Most excellent. How come there is no reflection anywhere on the 8 ball? Cloned out? If so you should've cloned the hot spot down on the right corner. Still top ten on my list.

Beautifully illustrates two seconds' worth of motion. The lighting works well here, too, fading off into darkness in the distance.

somehow the ball does not seem to be going in the same direction as the "movement-yellow-stripe" indicates (sorry for my loss of word to describe). I like the idea though.

this image IMO is hurt by harch dark shadows, to much contrast and poor choice of DoF use.

the very pocket should be infocus as well as the 8 ball maybe f16.....the light should be from both sides to minimize shadow or at least a fill from the left to cut down on the intencity. and curves should be used as well as maybe a screen layer to lighten the image and make the color brighter and more natural, not contrast which drove away defination of shape in the 8 ball.

GL well worth a reshoot/edit

Very nice ... at first I didn't get it, so I did a double take ... and wow, when it sunk in, I actually said, holy cow. 8.

Good focus on the eight ball and surrounding, nice motion on the cue ball. I bet this took a few tries to get the timing down for this. Good luck

Nicely done. The 8-ball is amazingly tack sharp however it seems a bit flat. This would have been even better had there been a catch light on it. The movement is a great add. This shot would not have been effective otherwise. The crop on the other hand leaves me wanting to see more of the right hand side. I would have probably completed the "pockets" as opposed to just having it cut just on one section. Great shot (pun intended) ;)

Great idea!
Something original in a challenge that has proved very bland

Well executed and lit. It's hard to get the moving object bright enough.

Great shot, I would have liked to see a deeper DOF so that the table was in focus. Great idea, good luck.
