It's hard to find square picture frames! The background is normal black velvet and patterned red velvet. Lighting was from two desk lamps - one stationary to the lower right, one held above and in front, to kill shadows a bit.

Did a bit of cloning/healing for dust on the black fabric; dodged one small section just a bit (still don't know how to work that tool); in exposure adjustment, -.015 offset, 1.06 gamma; +10 sat; USM 75%, rad=1.0, thresh=0. Resized, added border, saved.

This one the background is too dark and the wheat is too harsh. I like the idea but I would have done it with a solid black background and left out the cloth. Honestly I think it's the red fabric that got you on this one.

This was sadly underrated, Deb. It's beautifully done, but it speaks to an aesthetic that is not currently "in fashion".

I'm sorry but I don't get the set-up at all

With black instead of red velvet, I think you would have pulled a much more striking distinction between crop and square, while maintaining the light you got from the velvet backing. Still and all, a great shot

Good idea reminds me of a greetings card. I particularly like the colour combinations

Great concept, would have worked a whole lot better if the frame had been square in the picture - this could have been achieved through a minor rotation right of around .1 ... sorry it was really buggiang me :)

I think I would almost like this better without the red cloth in the background. It seems to make this feel a bit too unbalanced. DOF and tones are dead on. I also like the humor, put a smile on my face. Good job and good luck with the challenge.

Nice thought on this but I'm not sure I like the wine color background.

You know what? I'm giving you a 10, just because you're clever. And the picture's not bad either.

Vreative composition! I wish there was more contrast between the grain and the frame. They are very similar in color, and the grain sort of blends in. I love the laters here - the background, the fabric (very nice color and texture by the way)the frame, and the grain. Beautifully executed!

What an interesting frame and composition! I think this is very striking against that velvet black background. It just pops in a 3-dimensional way. Very well done!
