Someone told me I should enter a challenge because no matter how badly my photo did, it would still be the highest-rated for my camera, since no one else using my camera has sbumitted one. So here's to my first challenge!

My editing was levels, colour balance, and unsharp mask.

I don't like explaining my pictures because I think it cheapens them, but these two flowers are very special to me.

Hail, this was a good shot technically. Lighting, color, focus were all there. However, I feel you got a lot of low votes, because it does feel romantic. Perhaps a single rose (a flower more commonly associated with romance)? Nonetheless, don't give up... it can only get better.

Think about the challenge when you shoot. Here's what I've learned: If you go too far outside the box with your subject a good deal of voters will shoot you down. I'm often the victim of this, but socres don't matter to me as much as putting the shot out there.

On the opposite side of the coin, if your shot is too mundane, it will also be shot down. DPC is about pleasing a mass audience. To ribbon, you need a technically good shot with lots of mass appeal. By mass appeal, I mean, it has to be something most voters can associate with the challenge.

Anyway, I hope this helps and I look forward to seeing more work from you.

When I look at this shot, I don't associate it with romance. The flowers are droopy and just don't make a great subject. It does have some good color to it though.

Most voters will probly be marked down because flowers appear to be a cliched image for romance, but this is very nicely done. Great colors, dop, and angle. In my opinion these elements make it original enough. 9.

It looks like you over-sharpened this to make up for poor focus in the original.

the background here ruins this for me - nice composition, but the strong black (dark grey) line competes with your main subject, and then you have bold green stripes on top of that. 4

Very interesting title and the flowers aren't bad either. Is that a giant caterpillar in the background?

Technically good, but I don't really see the link with the topic.
