Ok. This shot took a while. Could not get the light right and I still feel it is way off. I hope no one ever tries to do this. It really is terrible. Try to shoot round things on glass not to mention trying to keep the dust off the glass as well. Just way to much hassel and time for what it is worth.

To get the light roll off Part of the lens was below the Mirror. Special effect trick number one. Unsharp Mask once, resize, and border. That is it. Light was a Double Diffused Soft Box Alien Bee 400 Photo Strobe at 1/32 of full power. Never again. :-(

Nice finish! I still think it should have been one of the top 3...Demand a recount...lol you're from Florida aren't you? Everyone knows there are problems with the florida voting system! All kidding asside you can only work now for a top 5 finish anything under that and you will be going backward...Wonderful finish!

All that hard work was worth it after all. Love the technique, will definitely try and copy that one of these days. Added this to my favorites.

Startling photo. If the blue marble had been clear it would have been a perfect 10.

The horizontal line in the reflection is distracting. Very Nice to look at.

the first marble is blurry, as all the other ones are very sharp

I played with some marble shots this week, but I didn't get any keepers! I love your composition here, as well as the black foreground and background. I'm curious as to how you got the reflection to fade to black like that.
OK down to business... what would I try to improve if it were my shot?
Your colors are very vibrant for the first three marbles, but the color in the fourth is lost. I would have tried for a yellow marble for that fourth one. Also, your focus is very sharp on the 2nd and 3rd marbles, a tiny bit soft on the first one. If your camera is limiting you, I would have tried for a sharp first marble and let the fourth go a little soft. Thie is a very subtle difference, not a big issue.
Overall, very nicely done. Great use of negative space, nice minimal border. Good luck! JD Anderson

Absolutely lovely - what was the surface?

Nice...this could contend. I really like the composition...very minimalist. One nitpick is that the depth of focus is short enough to render the closest marble slightly out of focus. I'd prefer to see either them all in focus, or one in focus and the others blurred. The very slight blur is a bit distracting...still, very nice.

Well done. The negative space really accents the subject. The reflections are chopped in half, that's pretty cool, although not sure how you did it. I would have liked to have seen a color stripe in the last marble... I see the blue, green and orange, but what is the last one? Glass is difficult to do well. Great job and good luck! (8)

The use of negative space here is absolutely beautiful... I'm not sure why you decided to have the orange marble facing a different way from the blue and gthe green but somehow it works...l Great use of the challenge, beautiful lighting... even a nice border :-) -10-
