I'm not worthy...I'm not worthy. How do I do this without getting my butt kicked and ridiculed. The answer is I can't but here's my tribute to the first person I added to my favorite photographers list here on DPC. Manny Librodo and his "Eyes" photograph is what inspired my exploration of portraiture. I hope this entry is strong enough to hold it's own and not embaress myself or my chosen photographer.

About the shot. Handheld shot of our oldest daughter Georgia with one of my old shirts over her head. Used natural light through the studio window in an attempt to capture some of the charm, innocence and naivety? of a Manny Librodo photograph.

Finally, I suspect I won't be the only person paying tribute to this photographer so my goal is to have one of the better Librodo entries. :Fingers crossed:

Hah! How many people can say they got a comment from their chosen photographer :)

Thanks Manny.

It's funny that I had a color version and a higher contrast version to select from and ended up submitting this one.

I am flattered. I certainly am not in the league of those photographers thus, it was a surprise to see this here and finishing quite high.

I suppose the biggest questions is, why did you convert to B&W since many (I know not all)of the TrekEarth shots and Many's portraits are alive with colour? The composition and model's look are bang on but I think your B&W would benefit from a boost in contrast too. Just MHO.

Nice picture. Manny's known for his awesome colors though, I'm wondering why you chose B/W. Very nice image though!

Excellent photo. Really, really sharp. Looks really Mannyish except I'd expect vivid and bright colors.. but well, I bet he does B&W's as well. :) 10.

I knew someone would do Librodo. While the scarf and the crop are definitely Librodo, I believe Manny uses color and texture to exemplify his master and skill in portrait photography. I see the image and it leaves me wondering for more. However, I believe that this challenge should also be a direct representation of the photographer (you). I like it and it would make for a great photo for your child to cherish someday ;) My only suggestion would be to leave some space by the corner of the left eye and the scarf ;) Great job! 7

Endearing tonal values that accent the strength of the gaze. Bumping up.

I think in order for this to look like his work, it needs to be in color and have that "neat image" sense to it. But having said that, this is an excellent portrait. I love the light and shadow (similar to his). The eyes are great and the detail of the tiny hairs on his face work, as it's a child. Good job.

the grayscale here is exqusite the childs expression isn't as gripping as librodo's subjects are, and that is IMO the only fualt with the image. i think librodo has a way of drawing out that extra spical expression that inner child. of even a child be it sad or happy he can grab it with his shutter, this comes close to him, but eyes arn't everything. still in all fareness this is better than most of the images in the challenge that i have viewed so far. and so u get one of the highest votes so far. lol, funny how that works.
