Taken while driving home from a friend's place. The camera was mounted on a tripod, sitting on the passenger seat - took a number of images at various shutter speeds while I drove.

The images showed greater wobble than I expected - I guess the passenger seat of a moving car is not a firm surface for a tripod!

Adjusted colour temperature (cooled) and tweaked levels.

Cool idea, you may want to try to strap down the tripod next time with bungees, or tie-downs. Give it a another try without the shake though.

Good luck!

Photo makes me sea-sick by looking it.there is no interesting foreground or main subject, just abstract moving lines, i would give it 2 or maybe 1.

I voted this a 3, mainly because of the lack of focus. Other than focus, it also seems over exposed. Puttin the two togeather it just seems as thought you did not try which may have also lead to the low score.

Most images if they are at least in focus, have met the challenge and show a bit of originality don't do too bad. Taking a second to perhaps slow the car a bit, assuming you wanted the blur and motion shake, or taking the pick at early dawn or dusk so that the shutter speed would not have had to be so long would have helped out a lot. You still get the same effect of a night shot with motion, but the wobble would not have been as bad.

Sorry about not commenting, but I was trying to finish voting and figured your were already going to get several "focus" complaints so why add another one. I normally comment on my 3's and 4's, but sometimes when it is obvious what the problem is, I figure someone else will say the same thing I would.

Don't give up, shoot and process using some of the fundamental principles in photography, i.e. composition, lighting, focus and you will notice your score will do nothing but increase.

Not knowing who you are in anonymous vote makes an image like this impossible to vote on with any degree of truth. How is the viewer expected to know whether you are a rotten photographer shooting for the Brown ribbon or a genius? All DPCers have to go on when voting is technical skills and after that what they find appealing or interesting. This image has virtually none of that to offer. Again, who's to say whether you did a great or bad job here, unless you expect the voter to assume the best of any image, in which case, truly bad images might be awarded unduly. With all due respect, I wouldn't comment on this image as there's limited time to vote and comment. There are many other images in each Challenge that I can actually get a handle on or try to make sense out of, within my scope of perception that get my attention.

Since you asked for a comment in the threads, I will leave one for you. I have not looked at other people's comments so I will try to take a stab at this image.

The thing you have to remember about DPC voters is "our" attention span to an image. For an image to be successful, you have to make the voter pause a while and take in your image and see the beauty that lies within your photo. This image however doesn't hold my attention for too long. I see a blurry photo that is poorly composed. There is no definite subject and it seems as if this were taken in haste rather than planning for a shot and executing it well. This is your first challenge entry. take the lessons you learned here and apply them to your future images.

The key to a great image is technical prowess and the "WOW! factor".

Obviously, these are just my concerns that I pass on to you. Please take my comments and use them as you please. I didn't want to seem harsh or mean but I guess for all of us to learn, sometimes it just needs a bit of ugliness in it ;)

If you have any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to PM me and let me know.

ummmm... not sure what to say but FOCUS
01/23/2006 11:47:34 PM
Alas, nothing in focus. Based on the light swiggles I guess this is down to camera-shke on a longer shutter speed.

I think this could have been a really nice shot, but it lacks impact or a focal point. I don't mind the blurry light trails, they add to a sense of movement.
