love the moment that this captures. perfect timing. the unusual composition is quite refreshing. there's a bit of glow around the boat that's distracting... possibly this could have been minimized or somewhat alleviated by splitting the USM layer into Lighten and Darken layers, and adjusting the opacity or masking them. The monochrome blue works wonderfully for this image, and the splash of color in the boat helps strengthen that secondary visual anchor. great picture

I kept going back and forth for a while, covering up the ship on the right to see what was the stronger image, and I finally decided they are both spectacular in their own way. I like the contrast of the colorful boat against the otherwiese muted, limited color palette, yet at the same time it makes them feel a little bit as if they were pasted there (I am not suggesting they were). Maybe desaturate a bit?

I love how your eye first sees the tail, then is drawn to the colorful ship... beautiful. Excellent use of dodge and burn as well.

Wow ... the grey sky and grey sea ..really make the boat and whale ping.

I love this -- the color-clad people, the smiliar-toned sky and sea, the crispness... I can smell the sea. Really great.

Great capture, love the DOF, good use of the rule of thirds for the placement of the whale, however the horizon cuts the picture in half and in my opinion a closer crop at the top to just a little bit above the people would have added just a wee bit more to the photo. Also I do like that you included the boat, btw, it adds a little color and adds interest and perspective to the image. Overall nicely done-good luck

Nice, I believe this is difficult shot to capture. Less of course you have tons of outtakes L()L.

the editing around the passengers is a little distracting for, but this shot is awesome

Excellent photo. I really like how the boat is only just in frame, as though it's trying not to be seen by the whale.

incredible capture! I love the shot but it looks like there's a slight haloing around the whale's tail and the boat, maybe because of shadows/hightlights? it looks a bit unreal

10 from me...good luck!

I keep coming back to this photo...really like the composition with the space between the tail and boat. Overall gray tone is nice with just a splash of color in the jackets on the boat.

went on a whale sight-seeing boat in Maine once - really neat to see these giants up close. This is a really nice shot. I like how sharp everything is.

What an amazing photo! I love the effect that the boat with the splashes of color add to this. Such an amazing privilege to see these majestic animals in action like this! I think this photo is perfect in every way! 10

This is such a great travel shot and I'd certainly suggest you consider selling it via traditional stock agencies if you aren't already - I know that travel magazine editors are often looking for images that show travellers actually participating in an activity rather than just the images those travellers would themselves take of the whale itself.

This is a really great shot!

Great photo, there's a little halo around the boat and the people that bothers me a bit, but otherwise a great catch, good luck.

Great image, but looks overprocessed.
01/16/2006 01:50:01 AM
Nice picture, very unique. A little over processed for my liking. Definite halo affect on the people on the boat. Little heavy on the saturation as well. Cool image though!

Amazing! Colors, contrast, capture. Simply beautiful!
