Location: Bond Falls, MI

Aperture: f/18

Shutter: 1/8

Date Uploaded: Jan 14, 2006

Taken at Bond Falls, MI.

It was 0F, sunny as all get out, and no wind - the perfect winter day. I would get rid of the cyan but it is actually how the water looked that day.

If I remember I used a polarizing filter.

I used the lower aperature so I could have a longer exposure, I really need to invest in a few ND filters.

I'm on the edge of the icy overhang here, there is no way I could have been closer to the river.

Editing was some dodge/burn

Thought for sure I had commented on this image before, but I guess not. It's gorgeous. I love the mixture of dark gray black blues. ;-) Perfect exposure length.

Wow, cool snow scene. Like the slow shutter/small aperture you've used to capture this. Looks a tad oversharpened though.

Really a cool shot brrrrr. But since you were in the shadows and most of the water is also, you could have dropped the brightness down some and boosted contrast a small bit without loosing the nice quality of the shot.

Wonderful, love the details in this one. The lines of water and the green through the snow covered trees. Simply beautiful! Well done!

Nice and crisp - perfect for a winter shot. I like how you slowed down the icy cold water, yet I can still sense how fast it spills over the rocks. The bue cast works well here. I can't get over the nice sharp PP as the trees really pop that way. That one little patch of sky is the only thing that looks off balance with the rest of the image as it is a bit blown out. Then again - that may be adding to the depth you can feel. Excellent choice for the Best of challenge.

Really nice colours and composition and contrast. It seems oversharpened though, especially in the trees, which is a shame.

there you are ;)

i really like the water movement, always do. still think this one will be very strong with a B&W adjustment, but this works with me too.

great job and good luck in the challenge!

Beautiful scene. A slower shutterspeed may have given you the smoother water effect, but perhaps it works best this way for winter water. The sky is nice. and the exposure is good.

At this point it was decided that another day without a bath wouldnt be so bad.

Good shot. Just enough time to get a good flow from the water, but not so much that it looks fake. It truly brings the chill into your bones.

Nice choice but I think the trees in the back may be a bit too sharp. I could be wrong though. Other than that I like.

It's a postcard. Don't like the top crop. Would have left in more tree tops to contain the image more, and dropped some of the bottom right snow instead. Not sure you had a choice or not based on angle of the shot, but I will still give it a (9).
