One of the lighting guys (unwillingly) modeling for the lighting designer, who is focusing the light bank under the bottom left of this shot.

They were setting up for the annual Martin Luther King Day celebration in the North Atrium of the Capitol building in Atlanta, GA (where I work). Of course, MLK Day isn't for another few days (Monday), but we have the day off, so the speeches are on the Friday before.

PS: I already expect to get hammered by the DNMC fascists. I really wanted a shot more like the challenge's very specific description, but I was busy all week and couldn't get out of the office to take pictures of all the lobbyists doing their thing. So this is what I have.

An unusual "perspective" on the challenge. Nice lighting.

For some reason, it reminds me of the TV series The Prisoner, where there were scenes of hooded men confronting the protagonists ... your empty (but reserved) chairs likewise can represent anyone, so long as they are in opposition to your subject.

Crowd? This figure is isolated because he is alone. This doesn't even utilize minimal DOF. You were supposed to be creative but it should be within the boundaries of the challenge.

"Drop your fear of candids this week and single-out a person in a crowd as your source of composition. Use minimal depth-of-field to your advantage to help isolate your subject, and as always, be creative"

doesn't really match the challenge that well

Where is the crowd, but this is a good photo all the same...

where's the crowd?

Interesting point of view.
No people here/no crowd - don't really think the chairs count as a crowd. (4)

Hmmmm ... I bet you submitted an entry in signs :) The one with the names on the seats ;) I like this perspective view ;)

DNMC

Too wide a shot for the challenge, and nothing to distinguish between.

Nice light, great lines, interesting angle, a bit busy, color ok, overall could be better.

Nice, promissing composition, but I don't think anything is singled-out here.

I think you will get a lot of DNMC comments, as there is no crowd.

Crowd?

nice shot

I love the crowd here. It's like they're not there. Wait a minute...

Where is the crowd?

Where is the shallow DOF and crowd?
01/16/2006 01:25:12 AM
Interesting perspective, but where is the crowd?

I think this is a fabulous shot. I guess you're going to loose a couple of points because it didn't use shallow DOF though - which is a pity.

I REALLY like this photo. I love it's rich color and yet it's the red that brings the eye in to the main subject. The steps work to bring the eye in as well. Nicely done !
