What happened here? Were people THAT put off by the unique desaturation? And what is this complaint about the photo "not telling a story"? If this had some hot chick instead of child NOBODY would be complaining they didn't see a "story".

I like this selective desaturation. Shot feels natural; like I'm a part of the moment. Well done.

Nice timing and composition. Personally, though, I think the selective desat would have been better in the opposite direction to emphasize the subject and de-emphasize the background.

I really find this image to be visualy appealing accept one thing. the artistic statement made with the selective desaturation combined with the title is one that makes him sound dead. if that is the case such an image is bitter sweet, if that is not the case such an image is haunting. either way, I LOVE IT!

Cute kid and a genuine expression, don´t know about the desat but somehow it fits..

Whatever you have done, you have really made this image work for me, I like it.....

An interesting idea to desaturate the boy instead of the foliage.

Good looking kid! Not sure about the desaturation though. For me that didn't work so well. All this imo, obviously. Good luck!

reverse selective desaturation is tough. Our subject doesn't quite look alive here.

Okay, it's only my opinion, but... I just think this is the wrong way to go when doing selective desat. By making everything else color but the boy, you've lessened his importance in the picture. If it were a ball he was holding, or something he was wearing, any small subject related to him, it would work because you would immediately connect the in-color object to the person holding or wearing it, etc. In this case, all that happens is I see the color in the background and wonder what made the boy go b&w...

Anyway, like I said, it's my opinion. I'll still give you credit for a nice image of the kid - gotta love that smile!

Interesting choice of desat. I like that you kept the colors muted. The bit of noise adds to this image.

Not often you see a reverse desat like this. Interesting choice, but not exactly sure why it was chosen. The photo itself doesn't really tell this story either.

I love the moment you captured here - lots of personality. I wish you had gone for black and white or two-tone - the desaturation of all but the green gives the green too much attention - when all attention should be on that shining face. I'd even darken the green before converting to gray scale - the white flowers would pop out a little more and the child's face would be like another flower in the grass.

I'm not really a fan of the desautration in this photo, but other than that its very nicely done.

I'll never understand why people do this. Selective desaturation works well, IMO, when it focuses the viewer's attention on the subject. This one pulls me away from the subject to look for absolutely nothing in the leftover colors of the background.

Striking use of selective desaturation. Unlike any other image I've seen so far in this challenge.

I have no idea why you desat'ed the boy and left the color in the background. Doesn't make any sense to me. Doesn't tell me a story. Title doesn't help me figure it out...

This is a delightful portrait. I'm not sure, though, that the selective desat adds to its appeal. Still, it's definitely very well done.

I would like this better if the desaturation was reversed, where the world was grey and the laughing child was in color.

9 from me...i think if you didn't desaturate the boy it would have been better...but that's my opinion!

Not at all fond of the use of selective desat here, keep in mind that this is just my private and personal opinion. Would have liked this shot a whole lot better if it was in colour with the same muted colours as in the backround. Not trying to offend you, just figured I owed you an explanation why I gave it a relatively low score of 3.

the title is a line from an Icelandic song... so I suppose this is an Icelandic image...

composition is good, the selective desaturation works well, but I'd like to see the flowers with some color, they dont look good grey.

the selective desaturation is freakish and detracts from my ability to identify with the subject.
