Greetings from the Critique Club!

Aesthetic:Nice photo. Almost has an abstract feel to it. Slightly lacks on composition.

Technical:Too shallow a DOF. Even the head is not fully in focus. Not that shallow DOF was not required for this one, but there is no single part of body which is fully in focus which does not let me focus my eyes on one point.

Challenge:Offcourse anything would fit into this challenge theme ...so no comments :)

Conclusion: I feel that only if the head was in focus and you would have followed rule-of-thirds, this might have scored much higher. And yes- this one lacks on uniqueness as there are lots of similar shots available on net and over DPC.

I wonder how were you able to get such shallow DOF with f5.0 ...

I'm by no means expert in area of photography. My comments are purely based on my limited understanding of technology and art behind digital photography. Apart from doing detailed evaluation of your submission, my intent is to learn different styles of photography by critically evaluating selective submissions. If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via email or PM.

Wish you a great day!

Wow, I'm surprised this didn't score much higher. This deserves at least an overall 6.0 in my opinion. But then I also believe mine should have too. :)

Sweeeeet, the colors a great. The out of focus body in this case really contributes a LOT to the appeal of this image.

I really like the bright colours used here, but I think the DoF should be slightly wider to get more of the Mantis in focus.

Great macro! I love the way his head is so sharp and the body seems to fade out. 10

Very nice macro and interesting use of depth of field. Almost abstract or alien.

The DOF is so shallow, the head almost seems disembodied. Good composition, but I find the overall blur effect distracting.
